ok soon I will be looking for a new car. £2-4k in value. Priorities are: Must be good to drive - good handling, steering etc 1.6 to 2 litre engine (would consider a diesel, maybe)

I noticed today a trail of 'hair' coming out of the exhaust of my 1995 Rover 416. Is this the silencer going? Also, is it likely to affect the emissions? Any advice please before I make a wig out of it! David

forgive me - i'm a bit of a dumb-a.s with cars my brakes started squeaking so I asked my mate martin who knows much about cars than me what to do. he came round and greased the discs at the front and the drums at the back.

Just spent a minute flicking through the manual to see if I have an engine warning light (having read the "What happened????" thread) and according to the manual I do and it should light up when the ignition is on but with the engine stopped. Thing is though, I've never seen it

Re Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 05 15K miles It is impossible to engage reverse without grinding the gears, even if I hold down the clutch for a while and then try, it still grinds.I have even tried engaging another gear then reverese with the same result.
