Metro returning 30mpg? :-(25 Nov 2006 21:55 GMT28
Picked up a 1993 Metro 1.1C (carb not inj) on the weekend, been driving it
round, over 111 miles (of which at least half was runs of 9 miles or more)
it has used approximately 16.7 litres of unleaded. Now I can't be sure on
the fuel consumed because that's just what it took to ...
How to find if the battery or charger is faulty?25 Nov 2006 16:27 GMT17
I am trying to recharge a new(less than 2 years old) battery but am
finding that it is not working. I am using a Challenge battery charger
which is a cheapo i got from Argos and have used successfully many
times before. This time I plugged in the unit before attaching to the
Bearing or Caliper25 Nov 2006 14:20 GMT13
My right rear wheel is making an obnoxioux "burning rubber" smell, but
under specific conditions.
After I've been travelling usually in excess of 60mph for a while (eg on
a motorway) and come off on the slip road... there's a nice smell
Rebuild kits for a Vauxhall engine25 Nov 2006 11:09 GMT9
I've been given a very smokey C16XE to see if there's anything that can be
done for it. After seeing how it runs, I'm pretty sure both the rings are
away and the valve stem oil seals.
I've suggested a full rebuild...does anyone know of a good site that can
seat ibiza25 Nov 2006 10:13 GMT1
When my pedal box on my seat ibiza broke (common problem) a good friend
stripped the steering assembly and pedal box for me. Ive now had the box
repaired, but unfortunately my friend has gone away for some months. Ive
managed to put back the pedal box but I am completely stuck on ...
Cheat the average speed cameras by changing lanes???25 Nov 2006 05:10 GMT55
According to "Honest John" in the Motoring section of Saturday's
Telegraph, the makers of the Specs cameras used to monitor average
speeds  have admitted that their cameras can't check the speed of
people who change lanes between one bank of cameras and the next.
Ford Mondeo Boot not locking25 Nov 2006 04:21 GMT4
A have a 2000/y reg 1.8 lx mondeo hatchback. I can't get the boot lock
to engage at all so the boot is just rattling around when the car is
driven. I had used the car the day before and had inadvertently left
the boot ajar, and since that i have been unable to shut/lock it. The
Hub nut removal25 Nov 2006 04:00 GMT44
Hi chaps,
I'm in the middle of putting new driveshafts on my Cit ZX. One
hub nut has come undone ok, but the other is being a right pain. I've
broken two breaker bars today trying to get it loose. Luckily I've got one
Head gasket oil leak24 Nov 2006 21:46 GMT10
The 1.5D Pug 106 has a minor oil leak which appears to be coming from the
head gasket (I was hoping for the rocker cover gasket but no such luck). No
obvious adverse affects other than oil loss. I'd already chucked some of
that Wynns oil additive in that allegedly conditions your ...
Squeal/screeching from a '97  Fiat Punto engine24 Nov 2006 21:25 GMT9
I'm trying to trace a squealing or screeching noise on a '97 Fiat Punto 75
(1.2 engine). I thought it was the drive belt slipping but a squirt of WD40
on the belt had no effect at all. I now suspect it is either the alternator
or the water pump but since they are both driven by the ...

How often should the fuel filter be changed on a diesel engine, I have
been told every 6000 miles, is this right.

anyone know if those injector cleaners actually work?
i am refering to the liquids that you mix with the fuel on a petrol engine.
are they really worth it?
do they help to clean the cylinders as well as the injectors.
Skoda Fabia 1.4 16 valves - Revs drop below 1000rpm whilst idle24 Nov 2006 18:31 GMT2
I have a problem with my fabia.  When the car is idle (sat at traffic
lights etc) the revs drop below 1000rpm then goes back to 1000rpm as if
i was reving the engine. I have a couple of warning lights on the dash.
This some times causes the car to stall.  I also have a problem
Astra "51" reg - cust out when warm, restarts when cold.24 Nov 2006 16:24 GMT1
I have a simple and persistent problem with my Astra. I can drive it
for about 10 to 15 minutes - nice and smooth - then it just cuts out
and it wont restart until it cools down - maybe around 20 minutes
later.
Fiesta overheating - a weird solution24 Nov 2006 16:13 GMT6
Hi guys, this is my first post but Ive done a fair bit of lurking!
My Fiesta 1.25 Zetec began genuinely overheating (bubbles in the
expansion tank and lots of steam) and it seemed that there was very
little flow to the radiator, despite me fitting a new thermostat which
