That "misfiring" Mondeo again ...18 Nov 2006 11:12 GMT1
Hmmm .. I said, she said, I thought, you heard ...
Daughter gave me a lift home from the station today in her "misfiring"
Mondeo.  She didn't mean "misfiring" when she discribed the problem - well,
she might have, but that's clearly not what's happening.  There was an
Rear window & electric mirror heating switch (1996 Audi A6)?18 Nov 2006 04:36 GMT8
Can anyone offer an explanation why a combined rear window and
electric mirror heating switch has some complicated-looking
electronics in it whereas a simple rear window heating switch (as on
the earlier Audi 80) is a purely mechanical switch?

MOTs "without trying"17 Nov 2006 22:18 GMT15
Mine was in again today for its MOT - passed without any issues.
I'm not a mechanic, never tinker with the thing* and its only had basic
servicing since the warranty ran out (although I did get the cambelt
done at 40k as a dealer came back with a stupidly low price to do it at

From 7th November, MOT for a car costs a maximum of £50.35.
For some time, Kwik-Fit has been charging £39.95.
Now, National Tyres has joined the fray, asking for £30 only.

Fiat Punto horn fault17 Nov 2006 18:47 GMT4
My sons 2003 Fiat Punto Active 60 8V  failed its first MOT 'cos the horn has
suddenly stopped working. I've checked out most of the circuit and need some
advice. The horn push is working fine, and the horn itself  works when I
short across the power side contacts at the relay base. ...
The fiesta burning Oil17 Nov 2006 16:02 GMT18
I've had a good look at my engine today, the 1.25l Zetec-SE 1998.  The spark
plugs have tips and insulators that look fine - slightly beige.  The bottoms
of the threaded bits are a bit coated in carbonised oil but not excessively
so.  Nothing a fingernail would not scrape off.
Rover 214SEi Heater Controls17 Nov 2006 12:19 GMT14
My 1995 (N-reg old shape) Rover 214SEi's heater control has just stopped
working on number 1, but is OK on 2, 3 and 4.
What is the fix for this - replace the whole panel... or something more
simple?

What could I expect to pay to have the clutch replaced on my ancient (but
trusty) Micro K11? (At a non-Nissan garage). I'd like to know what to expact
before I ask them.
I was thinking to save some dosh by buying the plate and bearing myself and
New shape Transit failure points17 Nov 2006 01:48 GMT14
Just got back from the garage after collecting the Tranny. This year it
failed its commercial test on the rearward front wishbone bushes (last
year it was the l/f wheel bearing).
Sticks in my craw having to pay someone to do the work, but a press was
Mondeo Timing 1993 1.8 Petrol - have I got this right?16 Nov 2006 23:05 GMT1
I've managed to get the timing out on a 1993 1.8 16v petrol Mondeo. After
reading Haynes BoL properly I've figured out this is how to set it up
properly:
the belt is in situ and tensioned.
Mercedes Sprinter Dignostic socket Location16 Nov 2006 21:09 GMT3
Wondered if anyone knows answer?
Took Sprinter into garage today and they can't find where to plug in
their diagnostic computer.
The turbo doesn't want to kick in and van is seriously slow. We suspect
Petrol vs. Diesel16 Nov 2006 19:27 GMT110
I'm just reading a review of the latest 1.4 litre diesel VW Polo (which is
getting to be the size of the Golf now).
The VW figures are around 61mpg but the test gave 58mpg on average!
With this kind of efficiency why on earth is anyone buying a petrol car now?
