Buying number plate while car is off-road08 Dec 2006 15:41 GMT17
To get a number plate you need a driving licence and logbook.
Number plate sales are notified to the DVLA
If a car if off the road (with SORN signed) then of course
you can still get a number plate for it.
2003 Clio 1500 DCI Turbo Problem08 Dec 2006 14:41 GMT3
I have a Clio 1500 DCI 2003. Recently the turbo has been failing to
kick in leaving the engine really dead. This happens intermittently. It
will kick in eventually if I can get it above 3000RPM. I can also clear
the problem if I switch off the engine but it can return at anytime
What does a fuse symbol of cigarette lighter look like? Vectra 9908 Dec 2006 13:47 GMT1
The lighter is not working, I thought maybe changing a fuse is a
solution, but the symbols for fuse box are confusing, what does it look

VW Cambelt Replacement Interval08 Dec 2006 12:10 GMT5
When booking in my car for a service the other day I was informed by the
dealer that the cambelt should be changed because it's now coming up to
four years old (Passat 2.0L petrol with 36K miles on the clock). I found
this a little surprising because I didn't expect it to need ...
Uneven tyre wear07 Dec 2006 16:02 GMT5
Just had 2 new front tyres fitted yesterday morning. 2003 Mondeo TDCI on
16" alloys.
Fronts had done 25k, rears 36k (or so, just guessing, but been on 18
months @ 24k/year).
OT(ish) - car battery / typical ampere-hour rating ?07 Dec 2006 13:24 GMT22
Someone I know is looking to run some equipment (a food warmer) while
mobile - it pulls around 700W at 240V, which I figure is in the 60A
vicinity when translated to 12V via an inverter, not including
efficiency losses.
Astra and CDR 500 radio issues07 Dec 2006 13:20 GMT4
I`ve got 2 CDR 500 radio`s for my M reg Astra, and have a question.  The one
that was fitted by a friend for me works perfectly.  The second one, which I
was testing before selling to a friend, will only display "CODE, "PANEL" and
the PIN number as you enter it, it won`t show any CD ...
Idiot Astra :-)07 Dec 2006 12:23 GMT9
further to my last post about a noisy Astra, I now have a dying Astra.
Nothing has been done to it for a few weeks apart from unplugging and
reconnecting the radio a few times, which was done today.  The radios being
swapped where the same make and model, nothing was done except ...
Mazda07 Dec 2006 10:56 GMT26
I was reading about Mazdas a few days ago and they used the Wankel type of
engine for a while.
I wonder, do they continue to do so?
Is the Wankel a lot different to work on from the standard reciprocating
car engine slightly vibrating after going through flooding07 Dec 2006 10:22 GMT13
I have a petrol volkswagon bora.  I was driving through fairly flooded
conditions.  In one place the water was high but not really bad.  I
went through the water and the car didn't die.
However later is the evening, the car started to slightly vibrate
2004 BMW 320td Sport Compact06 Dec 2006 23:26 GMT6
I'm just buying one, which seems to be in great condition, but I don't have
a good mechanical knowledge. Is there anything to look out specific to this
model that I should pay particular attention to while it has a warranty? I'm
hoping that it will be largely trouble free for me ...
oil filter location06 Dec 2006 23:02 GMT4
Skoda Octavia vRS 54 plate - 1.8T   Where is the oil filter?
I've marked what sure looked like the oil filter.
Standing in front of the car looking into the engine bay it was located in a
central position lower down on the front of the engine. A black cylinder
Brake fluid on brake pads ruined?06 Dec 2006 22:29 GMT6
I know if you get brake fluid on brake shoes your supposed to bin
them? Is this the same for brake pads?
Goodridge Brake Hoses06 Dec 2006 22:25 GMT11
I own a Volvo V70 1998 model.  I'm about to upgrade the brake discs and pads
to EBC, as the oem replacements not much cheaper, and I have never really
been happy with their performance.
At the same time, I will replace both the brake hoses and fluid.
