Short journeys14 Dec 2006 00:39 GMT106
My journey to work is only a few hundred yards, I take the car as I need it
throughout the day.
Should I let the car warm up before setting off, is there any real benefit
or is it merely a waste of fuel? If I just fire it up and go it would be
Transit knocking front suspension13 Dec 2006 22:43 GMT8
Just bought a '94 Mk4 Tranny and when I go over bumps and pot holes
there's a load banging coming from the front nearside suspension.
I suspected the bottom ball joint as the offside one has been replaced
recently but nearside is original.

Clattery Corsa C at startup13 Dec 2006 17:05 GMT12
This seems to be problem that is occuring more and more but I have yet
to see a definitive answer to it.
Starting up from cold this one give a brief clatter. After a few seconds
it is fine.
190E 2.3 idling13 Dec 2006 14:18 GMT2
I have a 1991 1903 2.3 with +206,000 miles, and now have a problem with
engine idle.  It seems, especially in colder weather and / or start up
that the engine idles extremely high.  This is affecting my gas
mileage.  it sounds / feels like the choke maybe stuck.
sluggush starting - vaux cav 1.7td isuzu13 Dec 2006 12:01 GMT3
My cavalier appears to be getting increasing slow at turning the engine
over. Normally I'd suspect the battery but the odd thing is that it seems to
turn over faster stone cold than if its been parked for a minute after a
decent run.
Mondeo alternator12 Dec 2006 23:31 GMT28
Hi all, car broke down on Saturday night (Mondeo Zetec 2.0L auto, 51 plate),
rescue guy identified the alternator as the problem.  Was going to have a go
at this myself till I read the Haynes manual.  Apparently I have to remove
the right front wheel and track rod end.  Seems a ...
1992 Renault Clio front wing replacement, easy job?12 Dec 2006 23:30 GMT1
One of the front wings is starting to bubble up with rust, not
surprising considering it's age I guess.
Is it easy enough to replace the whole wing - does it just bolt into
place, presumably with sealer of some kind? Any welding or cutting

Loud clunking escort12 Dec 2006 20:23 GMT8
Wel another week another problem for my battle weary escort :(  Whilst
descending a rather large speedbump earlier in the week I heard a loud
clunk come from somewhere around the front wheel on the passenger side,
i first thought i'd run over a big branch and it had hit the bottom ...
Getting Rain-X/Fog-X off a screen?12 Dec 2006 19:51 GMT17
I've got the nasty suspicion that the previous owner of my CRX coated
the inside of all windows with these nasty chemicals. Unfortunately (if
it was Fog-X) it doesn't quite work and actually makes clearing the
screen a lot harder than necessary, plus it fogs up even more readily.
Mk1 M reg mondeo cam belt12 Dec 2006 17:41 GMT4
It's gone. If I try to fix things what will need replacing and how much
will it cost? With the age of the car I imagine it might not be worth
trying to repair it. Any help appreciated.
Testing glowplugs12 Dec 2006 13:15 GMT49
Could someone tell me, in laymans terms, how to test for a duff glow plug?
I have a multimeter, but all I know what to do with it is check the battery
voltage.
Problems with autovaux?12 Dec 2006 10:20 GMT1
Just wondering if anyone has had anyproblems of late with autovaux?
I ordered some bits in November which they took payment for, and promptly
got lost in the post.
I asked them to resend the items, which they assured me they would, but
