and this even before i even try turning the key on the 'sick' car. can a (undamaged) discharged battery absorb that much current to stall the donor or is it most probable the sick car battery has an internal short?

SOmeone recently told emt hat the price of parts for Japanese cars was not as bad as they used to be 15 or 20 years ago. Is that true? If so then has there been something to cause this change?

The local garage have just managed to break off all four plugs in the head of my daughter's Ford Ka (1999). They are now saying that it's a head off job, and the specialist charges 50 quid a plug to get them out, so it's a better deal to fit a recon head at *just* (ha! ) £130. ...

Got a cry for help from a neighbour - his '93 Passat Estate had a blown stop light and he couldn't get it working. He'd gone to Halfords, looked up the replacement and bought a couple of spares. Except that neither worked. So asked for help.

My 1.8 16V Xantia is stalling at low revs sometimes, and "hunting" at idle. I've been told that cleaning the idle control valve *may* help with this problem. What's the best thing to clean it out with?

Not my car.. asking for a friend. Near the end of the production runs of ROVER 25 and MG ZR (as part of the so called 'facelift') some modification were made to their electrics which do not appear in Haynes or the Rover/MG CD manuals available.
