Engine oil grade v fuel consumption - part 226 Jul 2007 00:02 GMT10
A month or so ago I posted about the increase in fuel economy on my regular
Aberdeen trip after putting 5/30 oil into my Focus instead of the 10/40 that
had been in it for the last three years. Normal economy on that journey is
33 mpg but with the new oil I got 36 and 38 from the ...
Do I have enough r12 in my a/c25 Jul 2007 15:05 GMT2
How do I check if I have enough freon in my a/c? Apart from looking at
a sight glass on a receiver dryer?
Is evacuating and putting back right amount of freon the only way? Or
you can tell by pressure (to low) in the system?
Astra van radio console removal25 Jul 2007 00:59 GMT5
Anyone know how to remove the radio console housing
on a 02 astra van. I have removed two screws below the
ash tray but the console refuses to budge and there doesn't
appear to be any more screws visible.
service costs24 Jul 2007 23:39 GMT6
I was reading the Haynes book yesterday since I will probably start
doing the servicing on my 5 year old Focus. Hmm it seems at the last
(50k) service I was essentially charged £200 odd  for an oil change !
( 10 yr antifreeze,  35k+ for fuel/air / odour filters, valve check!!)
BMW PDC sensors.24 Jul 2007 19:47 GMT4

Reversing sensors not working.
Any common reason for this before I look for a fault?
Fuse, control unit etc?
Cam belt snapped.24 Jul 2007 19:04 GMT3
The Cam belt snapped today on sons car, he was doing 40ish. Its an 'M' regd
1.7 Astra Diesel. Whats the chance of valve damage? If it's an uneconomical
repair then its down the scrap yard.

Nissab Almera clutch24 Jul 2007 18:48 GMT1
I've noticed signs of clutch slip on my Almera (1996P, 1.6GX).  Is this an
indication of a replacement clutch required or is there an adjustment I can
try.  Mileage is only 53000 and I am usually fairly light on clutches.

Wipers stopping on a Corsa C24 Jul 2007 14:50 GMT2
My wife drivers a Corsa C, but over the last few months, it has developed a
fault with the intermittent/once wipe setting. When you set the stalk to
intermittent, it starts the wipers going but then they stop half-way across
the screen. The only way to get it to park correctly is ...

idiot got stuck in water needs advice23 Jul 2007 13:33 GMT28
On my way home after a 5 hour park on the M5 (Worcs) I decided it would be
a great idea to drive through a river that had broke over a road. It wasn't
a fast moving river but unfortunately it was deep enough and I drove too
fast and the car stalled.
Need help with auto box23 Jul 2007 12:30 GMT10
Well, choosing one really.
Our "main" car is a Nissan QX 3.0 SEL Auto and it's bloody brilliant.
Currently 102k on the clock and still drives as well and as smoothly as when
we bought it at 45k. So far it's been very reliable but I know that if/when

M25 variable speed limit Gatsos23 Jul 2007 11:22 GMT31
I rarely use the M25 but this week had to go to Sussex twice which means
using the section of motorway between the M4 and A3 which has the variable
speed limit gantries. These are situated every few hundred yards in some
places which must make it the most densely populated speed ...
Odd noise from a Skoda Fabia 1.4 classic.23 Jul 2007 09:09 GMT10
All sounds normal when revs held and stationary.
Accelerating gently or hard, nothing until 30, then a speed related
droning kicks in. It changes with road speed, but not engine speed.
It sounds the same at 30 in 3rd and 30 in 4th, but 30 in 4th sounds
