Prepping a bumper for paint12 Aug 2007 09:37 GMT17
I have a front bumper and a wing needing painting and was going to do it
myself. I'll o as far as rubbing the panels down and sorting out some
scratches but will leave the bodyshop to do the rest. They said they will
knock down the price a bit if I do. I'm a little short on money ...
Foot pump or mini compressor?12 Aug 2007 01:20 GMT12
The subject says it all really.  I'm fed up with my current footpump popping
off the valve etc.. and as both it and myself have grown older together
reckon a replacement might make things easier.
So the question is, are mini-compressors worth having, or will a good
Brake Calipers - New Bolts?11 Aug 2007 23:37 GMT2
Changing the brake pads on the Citroen C3 today. Haynes tells me the
guide bolts holding the calipers in place must be replaced and there
were new bolts with the pads. But why?
They looked like ordinary bolts so why couldn't they be reused? The only

can anybody send me a diagram showing what the HT leads should look like for
a Clio 1.2 (1171cc) single point injection engine?
Stupid me, I took them all off after just checking where no1 was and assumed
that the rest went round 1,2,3,4! going clockwise.looking at the top of the

What are brake caliper pistons made of?11 Aug 2007 17:02 GMT12
Any ideas? Looks astonishingly clean to say it's been in a caliper for 15
years, but it's picked up a lot of hard to remove crustyness on the exposed
section behind the dust seal, which makes me unsure as to whether it'd be
stainless or mild steel.
omega immobiliser problem11 Aug 2007 16:52 GMT3
Vauxhall omega '95 on a "M"
No remote locking, and she's done 180,000 miles.
Supplied with only one key, which has worn to a nub, so couldn't get a
new one cut (despite 9 attempts by "timsons" - gotta love that guarantee)
Silver/Calcium Battery11 Aug 2007 14:22 GMT3
Just had a battery warning light come on spasmodically on my 52 Reg
Mondeo 1.8 LX. Went to my usual garage and he checked Alternator and
was charging ok  so we surmised it was battery problem. Original
battery still fitted since 2002. Red dot showing in battery window so
Adding a cigar lighter/power socket11 Aug 2007 09:00 GMT6
I have a 1995 Ford Fiesta Diesel that doesn't have a cigar lighter. I
am keen to have a power outlet in the car to be able to charge a
mobile phone or a GPS, but there is no lighter installed.
Underneath the radio is a blanked out socket with a removable plastic
Which fuse do I pull?10 Aug 2007 23:04 GMT9
The "check engine" light has come on in my Mitsubishi Carisma 1.8 GDI
(X-reg, 2000) - which fuse do I pull to erase it from the ECU memory? I know
I could disconnect the battery but I can't find the radio code anywhere and
don't want to lose my music  :o)
Occasional clunk when taking foot off accelerator10 Aug 2007 20:16 GMT11
Just had my car serviced - a problem I pointed out was an occasional
slight "clunk" when taking my foot off the accelerator to change gear,
usually first to second or second to third.  It seemed to be coming
from the right side of the car just behind the driver.

Vauxhall Astra Query10 Aug 2007 10:52 GMT2
We have recently bought a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXI, 6 months old, on a 56
plate.  We are very pleased with it, except for one annoying problem, which,
surprisingly enough, the garage cannot seem to find the solution to.
OK, often, when first starting in the mornings, on engaging the ...

S'pose it might be a follower (though it doesn't really sound like it
IYSWIM) - if it is I'll leave it alone and develop some patience ;)
