| Merc instruments replacement | 10 Dec 2007 20:08 GMT | 1 |

| Escort cutting out | 10 Dec 2007 17:39 GMT | 11 |
My '96 Escort (1.6 Zetec) was partial to the odd cut-out when cold, but it's become really bad recently. I don't know if it's the cold/wet weather, or the underlying problem is getting worse. It'll start fine from cold, but for the first 2 or 3 minutes it will run as

| Edward the Compressor | 10 Dec 2007 16:47 GMT | 16 |
Some while ago I bought one of those 12V DC tyre inflation compressors that run from the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. It was absolutely useless. My nephew has now asked for one of these in his Christmas stocking. I guess there must be a 12V DC compressor that does work ...

Ford Focus Ghia 1.8 2000W. The LED clock on my Focus has lost its backlighting, making it impossible to read. I called into my local Ford Dealer to by a replacement bulb, but there isn't one listed. It seems I have to buy a new clock unit.

Recently I've been noticing a slight diesel smell after getting out of the 93 Rover 218SD (1900 Pug). Yesterday I noticed a very slight trace of diesel on the wet drive (emanating from under the front of the engine somewhere).

| Tyres slow leak | 08 Dec 2007 15:57 GMT | 15 |
The rear tyres on my Focus TDCi are 195 60 R15 V. I inflate them and after about two weeks the pressure is down to 10 lb psi. Could it be coincidently leaky valves on both rear tyres? or could it be a leaky tyre seal to the alloy rim? Is there an easy fix?

| Skimming cyl heads. | 08 Dec 2007 15:21 GMT | 14 |
On most modern heads, the journals for the camshaft or shafts are machined as part of the head. Therefore if the head is skimmed flat because of distortion, a permanent error is being put in the line up of the camshaft journals.
