I currently drive a W123 Merc 280e and am considering changing to an
older BMW estate on fuel and dog accommodation grounds. What kind of
MPG could I get out of a 1990-ish Beemer estate?

Merceds E-class - advice?20 Feb 2008 20:01 GMT7
Wondering about getting a Mercedes, something in the E200 range. Needs
to be an estate and would prefer manual. All the ones I've seen have
about 70 - 80k miles on them. Is this likely to be a problem? Any horror
stories / recommendations gratefully received
Strange temperature behaviour...20 Feb 2008 14:53 GMT7
My creaky old Mondeo has a strange issue with the temperature - it goes
up fairly quickly when starting off (to about 1/4 of the scale within 2-3
miles) but then either stays there or goes right down to cold again, even
on long trips.
Early MOT?20 Feb 2008 09:15 GMT8
Because I'm planning on taking a 1,000+ trip to France in a couple of months
I'm intending to have my car serviced soon, it last had a service and MOT
(its first MOT)  in August 2007.
Even though the MOT isn't due until August would it be permissable to do one

Buying a BMW E3420 Feb 2008 00:34 GMT6
I am thinking of buying a BMW 5-series (E34). I'm going to look for a late
one (M or N reg, but I'm told there are a few on P-plates).
I am told the 518 is likely to be the most economical on motorway runs.
Question is, what do I need to look for when buying one of these? And ...

Ford Focus gearbox...19 Feb 2008 18:22 GMT2
I have a 2001 Diesel Focus with a manual box. I bought the 'station
wagon' when it had been driven 32K km's. At that time the gear box
action was never 'smooth'; rapid shifts just didn't happen! Engaging
first was a struggle and sometimes changing up / down required some
Ducato Petrol (W reg) Which engine?19 Feb 2008 17:33 GMT7
Apologies for the simple question, it must appears I haven't done any
research whatsoever. I recently picked up a Ducato 2.0 petrol on a W reg
with little or no documents etc and no matter where I look, I can't find out
what engine is in it.
Mini One oil19 Feb 2008 15:16 GMT2
Does anyone happen to know the recommended oil for the Mini One 1.6?
No handbook to hand and can't find it on the interweb.

Crike, we've come a long way.19 Feb 2008 09:59 GMT34
Had a glance through one of those christmas gift books in the bookshop
today, something along the lines of "Cars what you Dad might've drove once"
with the top gear name stuck to it. The striking thing is that average, slow
family cars used to be economical if they managed more ...
Tyreweld to fix a slow puncture?18 Feb 2008 11:41 GMT19
Got a slow leak on one of my front tyres. Not too bad but needs to be
topped up very week.
To be honest, I think its because the rim of the alloy is slightly
dented so its not sitting properly.
Mk2 Modeo Brake parts.  Best cheap make?18 Feb 2008 08:21 GMT21
Hi all, again.
My old mondy [1] has totally shagged front discs. Well, they're 11
years old.  I'm not rich, so I want to get some aftermarket discs, but
