| V5C update on engine replacement | 26 Jun 2008 19:37 GMT | 2 |
I had an exchange engine fitted about a month ago and sent off my V5C to DVLA with the new engine number, a covering letter and the receipt from the garage that did the work as proof of the new engine number. It's still not come back after nearly four weeks.

My mate has a 1.4 Astra Club (06) and has a problem with clutch judder from cold. He has been in contact with the dealer who has said that Vauxhall will fund 90% of a replacement. (He has been raising the concern for 18 months) Clearly there is a known problem - does anyone have ...

| Rear light contacts | 25 Jun 2008 22:09 GMT | 13 |
Been having trouble with my rear lights. (BMW 318i 1992) Brake lights have stopped working and one indicator went dim all due to bad electrical contact between the bulb holder and the light cluster. One brake light I couldn't remove the bulb holder as it had welded itself in.

| Corsa earth fault | 24 Jun 2008 19:18 GMT | 9 |
51 reg Corsa... Apparently (not seen it yet) it's developed some odd symptoms. Those are that when it corners hard the brake warning light temporarily comes on, obviously that's low brake fluid. Then a couple of minutes afterwards all the dashboard indicators (warning lights, ...

| Dud alternator | 24 Jun 2008 16:02 GMT | 13 |
I have just fitted a battery to the Herald for the first time in 8 years (long restoration with the end almost in sight). When I do, the "indicator light" output of the nice brand new Lucas LRA100 goes to +12V instead of the expected 0V - I've checked it under load, so it's

Do you save fuel by taking the car out of gear going downhill or would that actually use more fuel?

| 406 HDi - vibration / resonance | 22 Jun 2008 19:55 GMT | 4 |
My 406 HDi 110 is pretty quiet and refined for a diesel, *but* when driving uphill or in fifth at around 60 (and therefore giving it a fair bit of throttle) between 1800 and 2000 revs it's not. The car sounds noticably noisier than at any other point in the rev range, more ...

| BMW shoot themselves in the foot | 21 Jun 2008 17:25 GMT | 8 |
The latest TV ads for BMW say that their cars are ED which they say stands for Efficient Dynamics. Strange, because I thought that ED stood for something a little different, mind you it seems appropriate for BM drivers in general.

| How to remove dried seagull $hit | 21 Jun 2008 11:43 GMT | 18 |
The local seagulls have emptied their bowels onto my car (again) and the stuff has set hard on the paintwork. Apart from elbow grease and lots of hot soapy water, is there a proprietary compound one can use to soften and dissolve the crap? I'm wondering if drain-unblocking fluid ...
