Oil filter ID please31 Jul 2008 21:14 GMT6
I found an old Fram filter, part no. PMFL 88 in my shed.
Can anyone ID what car(s) this fits? It's very close in fitment to the ones
that fit most Nissans.

I'm going to leave my car for a few months as I'm out the country. Can
anyone recommend a good car cover to use while I'm gone?
It's a 2002 Golf, but a universal one will do!
Thanks

VIVARO VAN indicators31 Jul 2008 17:24 GMT4
I have a 2003 Vauxhall Vivaro van.
The indicators work fine but the warning "click click click" noise is
intermittent.
Does the warning noise come from the flasher unit?  If so can anyine point
Peugeot 106 fuel gauge31 Jul 2008 11:48 GMT13
I have a 98 Peugeot 106 which I have just bought to run backwards and
forwards to work.
The fuel gauge doesn't work - I'd like to see if I can fix it.
Where should I start my fault finding?
Mk 2 Golf - Oil light on30 Jul 2008 19:43 GMT18
I have an old (1989) Mk 2 Golf 1600 Auto that has done 130k miles.
Sometimes while driving the oil pressure warning light comes on dimly
or full on, and then goes off again. Also, the head lights and dash
lights often dim at the same time that the oil light comes on. The oil
Astra engine noise?30 Jul 2008 19:14 GMT10
My brother-in-law has a noise from his 2000 W-plate Astra 1.6 engine
that I can't identify.
I'd describe it as a light clattering which only appears when the engine
is picking up revs - it doesn't happen at any set engine speed or if I

205 1.1 Compression problem30 Jul 2008 12:05 GMT8
I just bought a really tidy 36,000 mile G-reg 205 1.1 (TU engine) for
a very low price, because the cambelt had gone.
I've had the head off and replaced all the exhaust valves, plus two of
the inlets. All the valves ground in nicely and I crack-tested the
Oil for old Astra30 Jul 2008 01:07 GMT5
ever since I bought my Mk3 Astra, petrol 1.4, 135,000 miles now, I've been
using Castrol GTX for High Mileage Cars.  I change oil and filter regularly,
due for a change now really.
Is this "specially for old motors" oil good stuff, or am I just another one
99 Avensis 1.8 funnies?29 Jul 2008 23:09 GMT12
A mate is trying to sort an Avensis, if you slowly take the revs up to
about 3k it starts dropping and rasing it's revs, like a boy racer
would, revving it at the lights? ;-(
He's scoped the injectors and they are definatly cutting in and out
Ford 1.4 TDCi cambelt29 Jul 2008 08:06 GMT5
I've acquired a Ford Fusion with 89000 on the clock.
The Ford Service Checksheet gives 150,000 or ten year to renew the cam belt.
Is this a realistic target or should I be looking to renew it sooner.

Curious tyre sqeal yesterday28 Jul 2008 19:48 GMT7
Headed off to the lake at 7am yesterday to persecute some carp at which I
failed miserably and only managed to catch a couple of skimmer bream. When
it went dead mid afternoon as the temperature soared I called it a day and
drove home. On the way back the tyres started squealing ...
E39 M5 - Power steering whine28 Jul 2008 15:49 GMT5
Makes a whining / grinding sort of noise, mainly when the car is turning hard
right.  Hoses have all been changed, fluid has been bled.  Is it time for a
new power steering pump?  I hope it's not the bloody Servotronic box, that's a
git to get to, and I imagine it's not cheap either ...
