| not all old cars are "bangers" like the BBC want us to believe | 31 May 2009 17:01 GMT | 71 |
My old micra ('93) is still mechanically very good. Bodyworks is ok and passes MOT. Sure it doesn't *look* very "good" but it idles without a hiccup - Passes emission tests well within limits, (I did have to renew the O2 sensor 5 years ago!) uses no oil (I change the

| DIY Alloy wheel clean up | 31 May 2009 09:35 GMT | 2 |
I took a sanding disk to the corrosion on my Focus wheels at the weekend and they have come up reasonably well. I would like to apply some sort of clear Lacquer now to the bare metal, can anyone recommend a product ? I'm mainly concerned with stopping the corrosion coming

| automatic gearboxes vs. manual ones | 31 May 2009 00:14 GMT | 52 |
I hope this isn't a flame or a FAQ but what are the pros and cons of automatic and manual gearboxes? I've only ever driven manual cars before. I've just been on holiday and rented a car which was automatic. I get the impression that Britain is the only county that

| Clarkson on immigration, EU, and the BNP | 30 May 2009 20:07 GMT | 4 |
WHEN the British National Party win a handful of seats at the European elections, everyone with frizzy hair and comfortable shoes will run around blaming mainstream politicians for resurfacing their moats on the taxpayer. Hmm. That's like Ronald McDonald blaming his 42in waist

| Glow plugs bus bar | 30 May 2009 18:15 GMT | 5 |
My glow plugs bus bar on my astravan is not looking too healthy. Anyone know what the current draw is as I've got some 30amp cable and was wondering if that will be ok to make new connections to each plug?

| citroen c3 brakes | 30 May 2009 15:17 GMT | 32 |
I have just taken the front wheels off to have a look at the brake pads in my Citroen c3. Haynes says the limits are 13mm new to 2mm minimum. I guess I am about halfway between the two extremes. The car has done about 68000 miles and has had the pads changed once

| tyre sellers | 30 May 2009 13:14 GMT | 12 |
As you may have read in my other post my front tyres are worn to 3mm and the rear ones to 6mm. I am looking to buy new front tyres. I hope the rear ones will last a bit longer. It looks as though I bought all four in 2007, so they are 20 months old. I can't remember how many

| gr CO2/km ? | 30 May 2009 12:34 GMT | 1 |
How is this actually measured? Surely not by driving a car 1 km, as the result would be very variable, depending on many factors.

| audi tt | 29 May 2009 17:35 GMT | 17 |
Sorry if this is a daft question; I was reading some old posts in this group about tyre fitting and there was some controversy over whether to move tyres from front to back and then someone started talking about the Audi TT and said he did not recommend anyone should drive

| ecu codes, citroen c3 turbo trouble | 29 May 2009 17:16 GMT | 12 |
I have a Citroen C3 diesel (1.4L, 92bhp, 2004 year). It is very sluggish and the engine light is on. I downloaded some software for free, to save me paying Citroen £85 to read my car's computer codes. I have the following errors:

| focus 2.0 ghia rear disc problem? | 29 May 2009 08:54 GMT | 5 |
The rear disc on one side is only rubbing the pad accross 50% of the face, the other side of the disc is fine. Ive had the caliper off and it moves freely and pads have loads of meat left. Whats the cure a new caliper?

| tyre wear | 28 May 2009 15:14 GMT | 8 |
I've just measured my tread depth and it is 6mm on the back, which is ok for now but 3mm on the front. I think I read somewhere - here? - that although the legal limit is 1.6mm, performance drops significantly after 3mm, so it is advised to replace tyres at 3mm

| leaky air con | 28 May 2009 12:28 GMT | 1 |

| timing belt: ford puma | 27 May 2009 18:47 GMT | 4 |
My other half has a 1.4L Ford Puma. I was looking under the bonnet and saw the timing belt. On the under side of the belt there seem to be a number of ridges that run the length of the belt. There seemed to be "cracks" along these ridges all along the belt. I don't know anything
