My '94 E34 has an aftermarket boot spoiler with an LED stoplight array.
These have never been connected since I've had the car. I've powered them up
and they do work, so I'd like to get them operating as intended.
As the car has a bulb failure warning system, I understand a relay ...

I'm redundant after 5 years of loyal service and minimal pay rises.

Can you please suggest some cheap convertables ie under a grand, and fairly
modern (ie no more than 20ish years old).

Popped over to my local VW dealer today to have a look at the Passat and
Jetta.
Initially, I was stuck between going for the bigger Passat, in 2.0TDI SE
spec, or the Jetta in 2.0TDI SE DSG trim.

Just put the Marea up on Autotrader. The advert had been on for about
half an hour, and I've already had a call from a bloke coming to look at
it whilst I'm at work tomorrow!
