Road Trip Ring Report (LONG)30 Jun 2008 18:32 GMT28
In the end, if we include England, it was 10 countries in 5 days pretty
much.  We departed early Monday morning at around 6:30am aiming to be at
Dover for our 1:30pm Ferry, which we managed, checking in at 1:03pm.  It had
been a pretty easy drive down, one stop for fuel and ...

Wasn't it you who had a Porsche 928 shipped off for some engine
fettling? If so, how's it coming along?

I am the proud owner of a 94 LWB Frontera, its white, the paintwork is not
great but I've owned worse, I was going to go the matt black route but I've
decided to keep her white.
Hammerite do not appear to do a Matt finish in white, does anyone know what

OK, so, S-Type Jags.
Are they really a realistic proposition?
I'm tempted to stretch to a V6 Twin-Turbo Diesel, but a 2.5 petrol would
do me fine. SE spec. looks good, and petrols are cheap, even for 2004
Hyundai Coupe 2.0 SIII Mini Review29 Jun 2008 01:36 GMT5
Bit of a laugh, this one.
Not as sh.t as you'd expect, with pretty decent quality materials and
screwed together well.
Gear stick needs changing for a leather knob rather than cheap plastic.
Hmmm... interesting28 Jun 2008 22:42 GMT3

Today's update from DanB28 Jun 2008 21:08 GMT27
Heard from Dan earlier - he seems to have managed 4 laps of the 'ring today.
Reckons he broke 10 minutes on the last lap.
Again, I got the impression he was enjoying himself.
BMW 320d SE Mini Review28 Jun 2008 19:34 GMT3
Not as good as they say it is.
Basic, fairly cramped interior.
Engine rougher than the Passat at idle, smoothes out at higher revs.
Didn't feel like it had 30-odd bhp more than the Passat.

So, £475 / month incl. insurance and maintenance, can be petrol, company
pays the bills.
Has to be of a suitably professional image.
First thoughts were a 2004 Monaro.
Dan at The Ring28 Jun 2008 17:27 GMT12
Since it was mentioned he was at the ring yesterday I checked the
Nurburgring entrance webcam database but it appears to have been dead on the
24th :-(
However, I did find something better,
A fine days fettling.28 Jun 2008 16:48 GMT8
Today was the day of reckoning for the E30, and it's all looking rather
good, if the truth be told.
Sunday night, after getting home, I subscribed to an E30 forum and asked
about to see how hard it was going to be to get bits to tidy up the ol'

Just out of interest, I'm supposing you're running on Tesco's 99 RON stuff
by default.  Have you tried a lesser RON superunleaded alternative by any
chance?  Or Shell's V-Power?
I ask because my Saab has a love / hate relationship with Tesco 99 RON.
should it be this much fun?28 Jun 2008 16:25 GMT9
today while messing around in the yard i decided to take the 1996 mini
cooper 1.3 sport for a quick ride round the yard.
it's probably the most fun i've had since the MK1 MR2, ok i probably didn't
even hit 30 but i could whiz round the yard and take the sharp turns without

Locking up a distributor.26 Jun 2008 20:45 GMT4
I'm going to have a go at programmable ignition on a Rover V-8. But will
retain the distributor for the trigger etc. So will need to lock up the
centrifugal advance mechanism. I have a spare distributor to play with.
So as not to re-invent the wheel any tips on doing this?
