Hey guys, Newbie here. Biiigggg newbie... got a question regarding a VW

Repost: Impreza Off Boost?17 Aug 2005 16:42 GMT14
Sorry, posted this to uk.rec.cars.maintenance by mistake:
I drove my kid sister's Impreza turbo yesterday. Mint condition,
unmodified W-reg with 30K miles. Very nice, very secure feeling, very
comfortable, quick on boost, but Jesus, appalling turbo lag. For all the

Car chooser - small car with a big boot17 Aug 2005 00:24 GMT14
With a second child on the way, we need a more practical family car.
Unfortunately, my wife and I cannot agree upon what we should get. She
prefers smaller cars (currently has a Rover 200), and doesn't want
anything bigger than a Focus equivalent. I think we'd be better off
Insurance groups..........?16 Aug 2005 23:04 GMT17
If 2 different cars are in the same insurance group, would the insurance for
them be the same, provided all other details are the same?
What if the two different cars have different engines, but are still in the
same group?
fuel consumption gauges15 Aug 2005 20:56 GMT50
I recently purchased the new model Suzuki Swift. One of the gizmos is a fuel
consumption gauge - never had one before - great little distraction, but the
readouts sometimes swing from like 99.9 mpg to 35mpg in the space of a
second or so. Is that usual for such gauges?

17yr old car ins???15 Aug 2005 10:14 GMT31
The lad will be wanting a car soon.... any ideas on ballpark figures for the
difference in car insurance folks?
I presume that a gp1 car is far cheaper than a gp 4 car for ins at that age.
Should i get him a motorised skateboard instead???
Reusing car oil14 Aug 2005 23:55 GMT11
I religiously change my engine oil every 3,000 miles with Mobil 1 5w40
fully synthetic stuff. I know the mileage change is probably overkill,
but I get it fairly cheap in France and my annual mileage is fairly
low, so it doesn't cost a huge amount.
Seat Belt Question14 Aug 2005 20:39 GMT10
Some years ago, you used to be able to buy a seat belt top mounting lowering
bracket, which was a metal strap about 3" long with a captive nut to take
the top seat belt bolt at one end, and a hole through which you mounted the
whole assembly back into the door pillar, and so ...
A bashed jag13 Aug 2005 14:37 GMT4
In a town center car park today I noticed a lovely big jag with every
single window tanned - and it looks like whoever did it also jumped up
and down on the roof as well as theres quite a big concave dent in it .
I got ye olde digital camera out but its a parallel port connection ...
Replacement front fog lamp for Fiat Punto?13 Aug 2005 07:25 GMT1
Fiat are asking £45 + VAT for a replacement fog lamp. This is a 1998
Fiat Punto 60 SX (S reg). The lamp is fitted into the front apron
beneath the bumper. It's the right (off-side) one. Halfords don't do
them, and I've tried one other motor factor so far.
So.  I got a car.12 Aug 2005 22:43 GMT8
