I'm looking for a new estate.
Current options are
subaru sports tourer 2.0R - great to drive, worried about running costs
volvo V50 2.0D S - found it a bit boring, seems expensive.

I have just swapped insurance on my wife's cars.  The old Passat is now
uninsured but taxed till January.
Can I park it legally on the street outside the house or does it have to
be off-road on the driveway ?

Right, I've got around  £1700 to spend. I want a newer car than my old ZX,
which though it's done
me proud, I only bought it as a stopgap and now I want something more
modern, quieter and a bit more interesting.

Belongs to a friend. It's the version that is remote key controlled/started
and with the parking sensors. On a number of occasions it has failed to
respond/start and she has paid up a £25 call-out each time. Always away from

An intermittent rattle has developed somewhere in the front of a 2004
Fabia 16v petrol estate (1.4).
It seems unrelated to speed or road surface irregularities. When the
clutch pedal is fully depressed the rattle stops. There is no rattle

I've got a five year old Citroen Picasso with metallic paint.  I've had it
from new, my fortunes have changed and I will need to hang on to it for many
more years.
Trouble is, the paint work looks _extremely_ tatty, I mean a dog,

Is it possible to put in place a maintenance free gel cell type battery of
similar Ah etc, or would the alternator have to be changed as well to
compensate for a different charge rate (?)

thinking about either the 1.8 or 2.0 16 valvers.

Just spotted an X reg VW Golf (1.8 GTI) with 116,000 on the clock.
Would it mean the engine would be good on a new-ish car? It's selling for
£5,295 and Autotrader confirmed a similar price for dealer.
Or an VW Golf, Y reg (1.6) with 70,000 on the clock for £5,795, again

Recently sold a 130 PD TDi MK IV Golf to raise a little cash. I would like
to replace the car with something of similar performance, pref diesel, for
around £6k max.
Any ideas?

As title, any good ? what problems to expect ? expensive to fix? how many
miles should a 2.3TDi engine do before major problems ?
