| AA / RAC vehicle inspections | 29 Dec 2007 16:12 GMT | 8 |
It occured to me the other day that MOTs are astonishingly cheap for what they are. Why would anyone bother paying the AA or RAC the far side of a hundred quid to look at a car?

| Sell or Scrap? | 28 Dec 2007 15:30 GMT | 24 |
My mum's asked me to get rid of her old Polo. I'm unsure as to whether I'd be best off scrapping it or trying to punt it out in the ad mag. Any ideas of its worth would be handy. It's a K plate Polo Fox Coupe (that means pov spec 2 door hatch, shaped like

Can I just say, before the "can I pour water on my windscreen to thaw it out" brigade kick off yet again, yes you can. Make sure it's just tepid/lukewarm and your screen will not explode. Oh, and the "my heater won't work" and the "the temperature gauge hardly

| Mileage allowance cockup... | 23 Dec 2007 22:30 GMT | 38 |
We occasionally do trips for work, using our own cars. One of my colleagues just screwed up and used his company credit card to pay for the fuel for a trip (£30ish) and then tried to claim the mileage allowance for the trip (£120ish) and subtract the fuel bill from it, as

| Yaris- over servoed brakes | 21 Dec 2007 18:32 GMT | 15 |
I've had a Yaris 1.0 courtesy car. Overall, not bad (for a 1.0 shopping trolley), but the one thing I couldn't cope with was the brakes. They felt like they did *nothing* on the motorway at 70-80, but at town speeds they were so over-light, over servoed, non-progressive and ...

| Best place to get recon-gearbox installed ? | 21 Dec 2007 18:27 GMT | 11 |
Ibought a used gearbox, which has turned out to be a massive false economy, I now want to find someone who can just deal with it at a fair price. I think I'll need to get a reconditioned one. Any ideas? A geabox 'specialist' or any *competent* mechanic?
