Today I drove for the first time -30 Nov 2008 08:08 GMT4
A Mega van. To be precise, the two cylinder, "long" wheelbase diesel. An
interesting few minutes, I only went round the block. Quite hilarious and
much amusement for SWMBO and the pedestrians in the vicinity, for once
presumably feeling they were harder than the traffic. It's ...
Anti-slip pads for pedals29 Nov 2008 14:30 GMT6
Hi I have this problem that the anti-slip foot pad on my clutch pedal fell
off. I thought I'd got it back on, but a few days later it fell off again.
It's really awkward to try to force it onto the pedal. Is there a trick
(e.g. using pliers)? Are my fingers just not nimble enough?  ...

Citroen Xsara Picasso - any good?28 Nov 2008 09:30 GMT8
My mum's after something with more room than her Jimny to run my gran
about in. Doesn't have to be new, preferably less than £2000 as she wants
to pay cash and just run it until it (or my gran!) dies.  She's spotted
quite a few 2001/2 Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol models with 50-60k ...
AAARRGH Quandary23 Nov 2008 22:22 GMT1
Car 1: Nissan 200SX 1991, manual 175K miles. Pirelli P6000 all round
about 4.5mm tread. Utter rat. Paint peeling on rear bumper, dented
door (dentee paid £350 for privilege). Rotten wings, rotten rear
quarters behind rear wheels. Sills welded, front turrets tops welded
What car to buy for say £5k?23 Nov 2008 14:32 GMT46
My wife recently had her fifth accident in 6 years, writing off our Saab
9-5. So, to replace it I need a safe car. It also needs to be auto, as she
never got the hang of the gear stick thingy in the middle of the car. I
don't really want to spend more than around £5k as she does ...

skid pan's and other related stuff...21 Nov 2008 16:27 GMT13
I have read a lot of the debates for and against fwd and rwd cars, and
having had to take out a RWD car today (having mainly only driven FWD cars),
I was a bit panicked..  especially as the roads were wet and slippery
(country lanes).  however the car performed perfectly and I ...

Car suggestions18 Nov 2008 01:05 GMT19
Decent handling, well made and fairly quick, mid hatch sized are the
requirements. First thoughts are the old Seat Ibiza GTIs made up to about
98/99, but they're a bit thin on the ground, however they are cheap when
they come up.

Having been without a car for about 4 months - i'm starting to miss
being a car owner .
Although one thing i dont miss is paying the mega bucks in order to keep

Advice please advise on my shortlisted car insurers (Sheila's Wheels, esure, Halifax, Norwich Union)15 Nov 2008 11:04 GMT32
Using the advice on MoneySavingExpert, I visited sites like
MoneySupermarket and GoCompare to shortlist some insurance companies
offering the car cover for myself.  I took the cheapest ones and then
confirmed their details by getting each of these companies to give me an
