SU HIF38 question28 Oct 2003 18:12 GMT8
I am rebuilding my HIF38, and following Vizard's procedure for improving its
flow. The throttle plate has a big pop-off valve in it, which must be a huge
obstruction to the air stream. I have the Haynes SU manual but there's no
mention of what this valve is for. It looks as if it ...
Any distributor experts out there?28 Oct 2003 09:37 GMT10
When I bought my PI 3 years ago, the previous owner had fitted a fancy rotor
arm with a governor mechanism that shorted the spark at high revs.
When I got the car, the governor operated at 4100 rpm, but over time I
imagine the springs have got tired, and this has crept down, and ...

I have a 1981 Ford Fiesta Popluar in very reasonable condition and would
like to sell it.
It has been garaged from birth and been driven for the last 20 odd years
by my mum who is now 88 and too old to drive it.

LRP or additive?27 Oct 2003 11:48 GMT22
can't afford to have the heads on my 2.8 Capri converted to unleaded quite
yet, so I'm womdering whether it's best to use LRP or super unleaded with an
additive - Castrol Valvemaster or similar.
Can anyone offer any advice?

A-series gearbox problem23 Oct 2003 20:12 GMT7
25 years after it last moved under its own power, and after several
abandoned restorations and five years of my intermittent labours, the
Mk3 Midget was finally ready for its first trial: it managed about a
foot before it jumped out of reverse and made horrible noises. I confess

Classic UK nUmber Plates23 Oct 2003 12:24 GMT9
I hope soemone can clear this one up.
I thought old style UK numberplates - silver on black - were only legal on
vehciles up to about 1972.  The other day while visiting London I saw a red
bus - not a routemaster - with silver on black plates and it was "C" reg -
Triumph Trunnions23 Oct 2003 10:48 GMT12
I will shortly need to service my Triumph Spitfire for the first time, and
was wondering
   a) What oil do you use in the trunnions (I know it isn't grease)
   b) How you get it in there

Triumph Herald21 Oct 2003 15:51 GMT3
Would any one have an O/S rear over rider for a 13/60 triumph Herald. I have
the N/S so I am looking for an original one to match. It doesn't have to be
immaculate as I was going to get them re-chromed
Thanks
Sneezing Stag21 Oct 2003 13:47 GMT2
My 1977 Triumph Stag has developed a strange 'sneezing' sound recently from
what sounds like the front of the exhaust system. It does not seem to be
road or engine speed dependant, but is gradually getting worse. The sound is
very similar to a gentle sneeze.
