Sprite clutch adjustment31 Jan 2005 11:28 GMT16
Well folks, I have built the engine and gearbox, and assembled them
together. One problem - clutch won't disengage. The release bearing is too
far from the clutch itself. It's a 948 block and flywheel, and I'm using a
1098 rib case box. The clutch is a 9-spring, and I have used ...

So what engine would YOU use?28 Jan 2005 09:39 GMT49
I've recently acquired yet another Herald, which brings the total to eleven.
The car is reasonably solid but scruffy with filler in wheelarches and a
poor interior. There was just a couple of days MOT left when I bought it,
though that's now expired. The biggest sticking point is ...
Fuel and Oil27 Jan 2005 17:52 GMT29
I acquired a '52 MG TD yesterday. Perhaps someone would be good enough
to answer the following:
1) On an oil change, is fully synth good for a classic, or is it
better to use an old-fashioned multi-grade?
Kenlowe fan as a generator?26 Jan 2005 22:31 GMT8
The other thread about electrical faults prompted me to mention this
one. I have a Kenlowe fan fitted to my Vitesse with a manual switch
(only) and a warning lamp/reminder on the dash.
While driving at night, I've noticed that the lamp glows slightly -

Moto-Lita Steering Wheel26 Jan 2005 20:10 GMT7
Hi Group,
I was sorting my father's garage out and I discovered a 14" wooden riveted
steering wheel. It is flat (rather than being dished) and three spoked. Each
spoke has four holes. The boss surround has nine screws. I will be very
Thoughts please on electrical fault25 Jan 2005 12:07 GMT4
Hi group,
I'm considering (more with heart than head) buying a fastback Sunbeam Alpine
c.1973.
The vendor tells me it has a weird electrical problem and I'm keen to get
Is it a tax exemp spitfire25 Jan 2005 09:29 GMT17
I have been offered a spitfire which was registered in January 1973.How can
I check if it qualifies for tax exempt status?
Does the chassis number help and if so where can i find numbers made pre

Q cars23 Jan 2005 22:54 GMT44
What utterly bog-standard looking motor would you most like to soup up to an
evil extent, and why?
Mine would be (sorry 'bout this) Mk 1 Orion, because I had a 1.6i new as my
first ever car. I'd want the RS Turbo engine in it with suspension and brake
Wtd. Car collection from High Peak to Rotherham?23 Jan 2005 14:39 GMT2

Classic Car Insurance II22 Jan 2005 23:09 GMT13
I've just had the renewal in for the SD1 and it's gone up again by
considerably more than inflation. And I've never claimed.
I'm with Hall & Clark and they use the RAC, but say they're going to
change. But not soon enough for me.

Triumph TR721 Jan 2005 11:15 GMT29
Walking back from work to my car this afternoon I noticed a silver/light
grey TR7 rolling up to some traffic lights.
I'm not a classic car enthusiast, by any means, but I was struck by how
good it still looks. I think svelte would be the right word. Not only
