Looking for a new classic31 Jan 2006 15:04 GMT7
Hi all. I've been sifting through the archives and the group has been
helpful in suggesting cars for situations in the past, I was wondering
whether you could throw some ideas at me regarding my current problem.
I used to have a Spitfire 1500 when I was a student but sold it when ...

Does anybody know if there was a hazard light switch as standard on a MK1
Escort (1974) 1300 XL? Do I need to have one by law?
Cheers,

Daimler Mk228 Jan 2006 12:34 GMT11
Hi, could you tell me if Daimler made a manual gearbox version of the Mk2,
and if so, how many were built. Is there a conversion I can do to convert an
automatic into a manual. Could I fit an overdrive. Any information would be
great. Did the Mk2 Jaguar have a manual box.
Faulty BW65 box23 Jan 2006 22:57 GMT3
My 1976 Rover P6 3500 developed a whining noise from the BW65 automatic box a
few months back and the fluid became very dirty. I bought another box off
Ebay and have just fitted it, but there are no forward gears working.
Reading the manuals suggests problems with the front clutch ...

Spot weld drill - how to use?22 Jan 2006 11:36 GMT4
I've been given an air operated spot weld drill for Christmas (lucky
man!).  It comes with a support arm and I'm not sure how I'm supposed
to use this particular feature.  I had assumed that the arm would be
used to support the rear of the panels I was drilling.  However the arm
No more classics (or cars with pretensions thereof)21 Jan 2006 13:23 GMT9
I don't think I posted in here about it, but I got an XR4i, which I
hoped would be a good 'classic' to run about it. Hard to believe it is
23 years old, if you don't know about cars at least.
Anyway, my main reason for things like that, as opposed to real classics
Insurance again.21 Jan 2006 10:15 GMT5
The SD1 insurance is due at the end of this month, and I'm presently with
Lancaster. But I'll go with what appears the best value than simply
renewing. My main car is with Direct Line, so I thought I'd give them a
try. They give a discount for 'second' cars - and you get a second no
BMC/BLMC part numbers21 Jan 2006 01:25 GMT5
Can anybody tell me what cars have parts numbers beginning with "ALA",
"ADA", and "24G" please?
TIA
Cooler found20 Jan 2006 17:35 GMT1
Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions when I was hunting for a
transmission oil cooler.  I finally tracked down a genuine Truimph spare.
It should be in the post to me as I write this.
For anyone else looking for hard-to-find Triumph parts, this site:
Broke a bolt in the worst place it seems20 Jan 2006 01:22 GMT8
One of the bolts holding the oil pump. Wow, what an uncomfortable place to work in.
But I hope these left-handed drill bits(ie the 1/8th inch one is the only suitable one I bought) next weekend will do the trick.
I tired several other methods to no avail. That be some hard steel.
I ...
SD1 clutch again18 Jan 2006 10:33 GMT6
Does anyone know - is the clutch on a 1985 SD1 Ser 2 self aligning? If
not, how can I align it without having to buy the proper tool?
Bearing & conrod shell measurments for a Spit 1500 engine?17 Jan 2006 23:15 GMT14
It is listed the tolerances and such for thrust washers. Fine.
But I can't find anywhere the proper measurments for conrod shells & big end bearing shells. What's the proper thickness & minimally
allowable thicknesses? I'm looking at them from piston 1 & the rearmost bearing shell. ...
