NEWS: Norfolk plans to stick with speed humps [was: UK ambulance crews concerned over bumps]19 Apr 2004 14:14 GMT1
Norfolk motorists look set to keep on getting the hump after roads bosses
opted against following London's lead in scrapping traffic calming measures.
A report to be adopted by the London Assembly next week will recommend that
councils rip out speed humps and replace them with other ...
One for Conor?19 Apr 2004 11:19 GMT10
The traffic engineer was quite pleased with himself, he had finally
managed to stop the local bus drivers trying to take their double deckers
under the low bridge under the railway, so Councillor Prescott might
finally concede that he knew what he was doing. But as he entered
Insurance19 Apr 2004 01:00 GMT3
How long can an insurer draw out the process of getting around to paying
a claim? My car was hit in the rear by a careless driver just over two
years ago. The damage looked superficial at the time, but it caused a
lot of damage under the plastic bumper cover - I needed new bumper
Hypothesis18 Apr 2004 20:11 GMT8
Hypothetically, if I was driving in a posted 40, turned right into a road
that had no limit posted except for 40 repeaters, would I be correct in
assuming its a 40?
Now, say I continue along said hypothetical 40(?)limit, did a left turn. No
Caravan antics18 Apr 2004 15:17 GMT52
Ah, the joys of Easter...
1. A1 north of Newcastle, Friday pm. Volvo V40 facing wrong way in lane 1
of 2-lane dual carriageway. Front bumper touching tarmac, rear wheels with
four foot of air, and a caravan on it's side still attached to the towbar.
Is this about the right price?18 Apr 2004 11:09 GMT2
Looking at getting a Focus. Saw one at a dealership, £6995 - don't know the
trim but it wasn't Ghia. Red, 02 plate, 5 dr, CD player, alloys, 33k, 12 mth
warranty. Offering 0% too. Is it a good price considering they are offering
0% finance too. Looked on Parkers and they reckoned ...
Approved Car Finance17 Apr 2004 21:17 GMT4
Mate of mine has just bought a car from Approved Car Finance. It's a 1998
Suzuki Baleno which I see go in Autotrader for about £1500 to £1995
The purchase price was £5000 - he gets £1000 trade in for his old vehicle
and £225 cash back on the deal.
Good rear legroom with tall driver17 Apr 2004 09:28 GMT6
Anyone care to recommend a family car with good rear legroom when there's a
6'4" person sat in the drivers seat?
So far I've found a Getz (boot space too small) and a Zafira.
For some reason I don't fit in a Scenic (current model) without the steering
This braking business.17 Apr 2004 02:36 GMT45
<refers to depths of 'hidden cameras' thread>
Right, so cars are designed so the the rears lock after the front.
Apparently doing it the other way round causes massive oversteer, and a
spinning car.
MOT rules15 Apr 2004 20:55 GMT7
Is a smashed wide angle door mirror glass (main mirror glass intact) an MOT
(Group IV) failure? I would presume so, but need to know as I can't seem to
get one from eBay at the moment and Peugeot want 60 quid + VAT for a poxy
bit of glass that is actually still perfectly usable in ...
Why do people .... ?14 Apr 2004 22:14 GMT22
I'm driving along a 50 mph section of dual carriageway. The tachograph on my
coach reads 50/51 mph. I'm approaching a speed camera. In my offside mirror
a convoy of cars fast approaches in the outside lane. The lead one changes
lane in front of me, brakes suddenly to 45 mph for the ...
Remove the fine and keep the points14 Apr 2004 17:03 GMT69
The best way to stop drivers complaining that speed traps are
tax-gathering devices is to stop fining drivers for speeding.

Trucks overtaking trucks:  aka the 55mph road block!13 Apr 2004 18:41 GMT48
I'm sure you've experienced this on one of the UK's many dual carriage
ways - two lanes, the inside with trucks, vans and slower cars doing
55-60mph, the outside lane happily going 65-70mph passing those
vehicles gently, even politely!
Not fun13 Apr 2004 15:19 GMT38
I came around a bend on my drive home the other day to find a 7.5 tonne
Comet lorry cresting the hill in the middle of the road, which then got into
a nasty rear end slide. Having a lorry coming towards you sideways in a Ka
isn't much fun at all. Due to me climbing the verge and the ...
