"Thumbs down".09 Jul 2005 10:54 GMT27
I occasionally give a headlamp flash and a "thumbs down" to traffic
coming the other way e.g. when there's an abnormal hazard they will
encounter around a bend, over the brow of a hill, or wherever. Lorry
and van drivers often give an acknowledgement. Is this signal widely

Car Wars last night08 Jul 2005 18:04 GMT11
Couldn't help but piss myself laughing, when a lorry driver was pulled over
for not giving way to an unmarked police car.
The police driver explained he flashed his headlights when it was apparent
the lorry wasn't going to stop. The lorry drivers response was "I thought
Was it the AstraVanMan?08 Jul 2005 16:09 GMT5
Saw an Astravan in Reading today, R reg, had GB flag stickers on it's
tailgate, and extra big alloys.  Anyway he seemed to be quite a slow
driver (probably because his alloys were too big), had a brake light
out, and was rather rude (I hope it's not the AstraVanMan).  There was
G8 summit08 Jul 2005 00:30 GMT4
Sheesh, I've never seen so many police on the road in my life.
Today, driving a total of maybe 20 miles along the A9
(through Dunblane, not around it on the A9, though) I saw...
Must have been over 20 police vehicles (from bikes and cars to
Seatbelt advice07 Jul 2005 21:00 GMT9
My 6yr old disabled son has now discovered how to unclip his seatbelt and
takes great enjoyment in carrying out this new activity!! The first time
this happened last week I put it down to not clipping it in correctly (he
got out a couple of hundred yards away from the supermarket ...
another failure to understand07 Jul 2005 18:26 GMT13
Here is someone else who has failed to understand that better driving leads
to fewer collisions.
He's come off the road (no one else involved) hurt himself badly and now
decides he's going to use a seat belt. If he'd been doing the job properly
Engine behaviour07 Jul 2005 16:36 GMT64
After thrashing my car up a long and steep hill the engine always
sounds significantly noisier for a while after.  Why is this?  It's
definately not psychological, and it happens every day.  I'm just
curious!
Paging Sleeker GT Phwoar07 Jul 2005 10:45 GMT3
Apologies. Wrong group I know, but Carl seems to post here more than the

IAM demo driver06 Jul 2005 15:07 GMT138
Just got back from my first demo drive.  The observer seemed quite
happy with my driving.  We drove for around 25 mins, and he couldn't
find anything wrong.  I did make a few minor mistakes, but I pointed
those out before he did.  There was a sports car that I nearly
Getting the message across06 Jul 2005 13:30 GMT10
There have been many suggestions in various threads about how to deal
with those with poor lane discipline. Perhaps this is the answer.

Direct line ads06 Jul 2005 13:01 GMT18
The current direct line insurance ad seems to be saying that if you are hit
by an uninsured driver then you won't have to pay the excess or lose NCB.
Sounds a bit unlikely to me.
A waiting list?06 Jul 2005 09:32 GMT15
I have made contact with my local RoADA group but have been told there is a
waiting list of two months!
