See & Be Seen14 Nov 2005 12:00 GMT42
The other day I saw cars being driven in bad weather without lights on
or with just parking (side) lights on. There were times when their cars
could not be seen by other drivers (truck pulling out as they overtook
it on the motorway) and when they could not see properly (being in ...
Driving barefoot14 Nov 2005 10:56 GMT9
What is the law on driving barefoot?  As i sometimes drive barefoot on the
way back from the beach after surfing.  I have never suffered any problems.
I thought it was good for women to remove their high heels and drive
barefoot?
full beam headlights13 Nov 2005 16:41 GMT27
I was thinking ... driving down a dark country lane with fullbeam headlights
on....
how far away should I be before dipping the lights?
I usually do so when I can see the other cars head lights,  but can I wait
What Amazon doesn't want you to know.13 Nov 2005 09:51 GMT7
Gentle uk.rec.driving reader,
First, my apology for cross-posting to this NG. Be assured that this is
a one-off. It will never happen again.
My sole purpose is to draw your attention to what I believe are dubious

'Terrorism' alert on the motorway

todays pillock12 Nov 2005 05:42 GMT4
Driving along a SC A road NSL, fairly twisty and hilly and its wet although
not raining particularly hard.
As we leave a small town there's a WVM with phone clamped to ear about ten
feet off my back bumper so regardless of my speed I slow up, and then slow
Capital driving offenses11 Nov 2005 22:41 GMT36
My number one capital driving offence is blocking a roundabout because
the driver is too stupid, inconsiderate or inattentive to notice that
their exit lane is blocked. This means that not only is his/her stream
of traffic stationary, but he/she makes sure everyone else's is as
RAC Wiper advice11 Nov 2005 16:47 GMT2
Did anybody else see the RAC information ad telling you how to wipe your
wiper blades with a cloth with vinegar on to clear grease and make them work
better?
Well done the RAC. Looking forward to lots more good advice in small
Another headlight rant11 Nov 2005 13:51 GMT22
I have this theory that when someone gets in a car they psychologically
"become" a CAR, they are suddenly one of a group of CARS, and they
interact with other CARS. Everything else is NOT A CAR, so a different
species, to be avoided but not interacted with. They somehow forget

Side lights and Fog lights11 Nov 2005 09:26 GMT96
Also like the THINK! post earlier, the turning back of the clocks now
returns us to the infinitely more irritating phenomenon of the London driver
(and around the country I guess but in less great proportions) of not using
dipped headlamps at night, like normal people do, but ...
do accident rates go up once the clocks go back ?10 Nov 2005 23:55 GMT62
just wondering if theres any statistics, clocks went back on sunday and
2 accidents (not mine) on the way home from work already this week
(one causing 30 min delay and long tailbacks)
Bus Lanes - Sign Requirements10 Nov 2005 19:18 GMT22
My route into work has been destroyed by new bus lanes created for the
3 or 4 buses an hour that actually use the route. At the start of the
week all the blue signs at the start of the lanes were turned 90% so
instead of facing the oncoming traffic they now face the pavement.
UK Road Congestion Falls but technological improvements not the cause10 Nov 2005 16:31 GMT18
The Sunday Times reports in article "Road Congestion figures show
fall" reports that while road congestion is increasing in many
countries, it is falling in the UK.  The figures provided by
Trafficmaster show an average reduction in congestion levels falling by
