I should give up!09 Nov 2005 11:13 GMT45
There's a fairly nasty bend near me, and people sometimes park on, or
near it.  A few weeks ago, when a van was parked on it, I gave a short
horn blast as I was approaching it.  A few moments later an old bloke
comes around at full speed causing me to brake heavily.  Even if I
Motorcyclists - NO!08 Nov 2005 22:40 GMT12
There's a really bad habit among motorcyclists up here (don't know if
it's local or country wide) in Scotland where due to the EU forcing
manufacturers to only use one of the twin headlights when on dipped
beam, the clever motorcyclists just turn on the main beam all the time
Mr Nice Guy (s) in the queue08 Nov 2005 21:30 GMT12
Taking an unusual route into town the other day I pondered on why I was only
moving up a couple of car lengths when the traffic lights down the road were
changing. I realised - - several Mr Nice Guys were letting traffic out of
every side turn, filling station, car park, etc ...

Best (and most legal) way to say thank you to lorries?08 Nov 2005 08:36 GMT18
I experienced a rare courtesy from a lorry while travelling North on
the 2 lane section of the A1 yesterday.  A lorry had pulled out to
overtake another lorry on an uphill section and was slowly starting to
try and edge past it, the speed limiters keeping the overtaking lorry
Tyre Pressures08 Nov 2005 01:01 GMT101
>From some research done bye the RAC :
"seven percent of drivers checked their cars' tyre pressures and tread
depths once a year"
I'm assuming that they mean the other 93% never check their pressures.
Tyres and the law07 Nov 2005 16:00 GMT1
Hi - I have been given a set of snow tyres, Pirelli P Zero which are
generally used by rally car drivers.  These have completed one section of a
race and, aside from a few nicks and scuffs have 10mm tread to all 4 wheels.
I will be driving to the Alps during January and February ...
Contact Position07 Nov 2005 11:53 GMT72
My IAM observer tells me that the contact position is about 'one and a
half car lengths' behind another vehicle.  Isn't this far too close?  I
thought the police generally recommended 1 seconds?
The road where he was saying this was a twisty country road behind a
MOT Question07 Nov 2005 11:31 GMT122
You can take your vehicle for a MOT up to 1 month in advance and then
get it post dated. If the vehicle fails that MOT is the original MOT
certificate still valid? I think not but a friend disagrees.
train or car...06 Nov 2005 11:50 GMT9
Sunday I took the train to Londinium and back. Big mistake. The only reason
I did was because I saw an ad in The Scotsman advertising GNERs cheap travel
rates so I booked the tickets about 4 weeks ago at a cost of £20. A bargain
I thought. f.ck yeah.
Astonishing Insurance Quote06 Nov 2005 01:33 GMT39
My motor insurance is due for renewal this month and I've been phoning
around as usual.
My existing insurers have reduced last year's premium by 5% down to £274
(Fully comp, PNCD, Legal Expenses) for a 2004 Rover 75 Tourer.
Lane usage when dual carriagways end06 Nov 2005 00:56 GMT123
I can't find anything in the Highway Code about which lane(s) to queue
in when a dual carriageway turns into single lane road.
If there's a 400 yard queue in lane one and no queue in lane two,
surely it would be more efficient for cars to use both lanes?  Then
This Was Unfair!06 Nov 2005 00:56 GMT300
I generally don't mind speed cameras, but I've recently seen something
that I thought was a little unfair.  There was camera van waiting at
the side of the road, just as the limit changes from 60mph to 30mph.
To make it worse the limit was soon after a bend.
Advance driving courses - opinions06 Nov 2005 00:54 GMT128
I know some of you probably have experience of an advance driving course so
I've come for some first hand experiences.
I'm nearly 24, driven for 5 years with no accidents/claims, fines, points
etc. I've been considering doing an advance driving course because I hope it
Brings back memories!06 Nov 2005 00:48 GMT1
The sounds outside remind me of the Blitz!
A joy to behold. Now we just need HRH The Queen Mother to rise from the
grave and take a stroll round London!
