Golden moment18 Dec 2005 17:19 GMT21
Dual carriageway section of A75. Idiot (safe assumption - silly
personalised number plate) hurtles past me on the uphill bit. Then we
get to the single carriageway section. Where I catch him up in a
couple of minutes, then easily and safely overtake both him and the
Fines for accident-causers?17 Dec 2005 15:42 GMT25
<rant>
After *another* accident involving a HGV and probably caused by the YMF
driving it down the embankment of the M6S/M56E sliproad, I think it's time
that the cost to the people stuck in the resultant snarl-up for their wasted
Car sharing16 Dec 2005 12:58 GMT6
How many of you guys have car shared before?
Would you offer to take strangers to the place you were going (say long
motrway ride) if they paid for half the petrol costs?
Or would you be too afraid of your safety and the hassle?
Green issues16 Dec 2005 11:02 GMT51
Why do the Green people assume that if more roads are built we will all get
our cars out more - or even buy more cars. The M25 has been widened - a
Green person implied I would get my car out to drive on it.
(However, I sometimes wonder how much congestion is caused by young ...
How does one know the shocks need replacing?15 Dec 2005 23:59 GMT52
I read today that shock absorbers start to wear out at 30,000 miles and
should be replaced. What is the best way to test them?

Dial a car thief!15 Dec 2005 19:24 GMT51

Someone nicks a car , finds a mobile in there , then uses his *own* phone to
ring people up and brag about having stolen their mates car.
To further compound the stupidity he then uses his girlfriends mobile to
Blue lights  = gay driver15 Dec 2005 14:50 GMT39
I didn't realise until today. The blue lights on the front of HGV's and
boy-racers means the driver is gay and is looking for a companion.
Road positioning.15 Dec 2005 14:43 GMT6
So many drivers feel the need to angle their cars towards the direction they
intend to turn at junctions. Common on right turns. Thus often stopping
following drivers from carrying straight on if the driver is turning right,
or preventing them from turning left at a T junction.
Roundabout right of way question15 Dec 2005 13:14 GMT48
Can anyone help me with this:
Suppose there is a four-road roundabout, with roads at 12, 3, 6, 9 on a
clockface.
You are driving 'upwards' towards it from 6 and want to turn right to

Speed Camera Question15 Dec 2005 08:07 GMT45
I wa flashed (Oo-err, missus) on Saturday night by a camera facing
towards me. There was no traffic on the other side of the road so I
assume I must have triggered the camera. I had always thought that
cameras only detected speeding vehicles on the side of the road that

Why no a/c?14 Dec 2005 13:45 GMT5
The advice being given out if driving past Hemel Hempstead on the M1 is to
close your windows (fair enough) and not to use your air conditioning. Why
not? What's the difference between having a/c on and just having the fan on
(in a non-a/c car)? Or why shouldn't I have the a/c ...
