HGV overnight parking30 May 2009 10:16 GMT13
Posted this in the legal newsgroup, but for some reason forgot to post it
here, which is probably the best place.
It appears that an HGV (Yes I know they're LGVs these days, don't be
pedants) class 1 (40ft container) has decided to park in our village in the

Driver duties = paper log29 May 2009 10:13 GMT3

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, had what was desribed as a
"near-miss" with a lorry while riding his bicycle in east London.
The incident, caught on a private security camera, happened as the mayor

Not content with creating yet another pointless strike on the victoria
line about bugger all, this dyed in the wool w.nker now seems to have
political ambitions over and above herding a bunch of thick militants on to

Spent a little time in that group and was suprised at how
anti-car/anti-motorist many of the urc contributors are.  Some are more
balanced in their views but there seem to be a large number who are rabidly
against car-drivers.  I hadn't realised that such a degree of animosity
Instant poetic justice25 May 2009 23:14 GMT53
This morning on my way to work I was tailgated by a clown in a bright
blue 08 reg Astra VSI in a 30 mph single carraigway who was obviously
in a hurry to get somewhere quick as he kept pushing closer and then
having to fall back as he could not initimidate me to exceed the

The A17 between Newark and Sleaford is single carriageway.  I travel on it

Engine braking in emergency24 May 2009 10:53 GMT41
In conversation the other day the question came up of what to do if
your car's brakes failed.
At first my response was to switch the ignition off taking care not to
lock the steering wheel and to grab the handbrake.
Uninsured Vehicle Parked on Road24 May 2009 08:46 GMT41
Can anyone point me to a webpage that explains it is illegal to keep an
uninsured, un-MOT'd but with current VED vehicle on the public highway.
This vehicle is not being driven, it has not moved since the insurance
was changed to another vehicle or since the MOT ran out.
