Aston Express Way14 Jul 2009 13:26 GMT9
During the afternoon rush hour I queued on the Aston Expressway,
Birmingham heading North onto the M6. The signs directed me into lane
one. It took me 45 minutes to drive less than one mile. During my time
there I noticed that lane one crawled along. Lane two was faster, maybe

Censorship in uk.rec.cycling.moderated13 Jul 2009 18:15 GMT89
A psycholist is trying to make uk.rec.cycling moderated so that nobody will
have a right of reply to anti-motorist abuse that is rife on that group. His
hand picked moderators have already said that they will censor "contentious"
opinions, and have said that you must be a "UK ...
"Use the crawler lane" - but there isn't one!13 Jul 2009 11:40 GMT1
On Sutton Bank (A170 Thirsk to Helmsley in North Yorkshire) there are signs
telling HCVs [1] to use the crawler lane on this steep 1:4 hill. Very
sensible - except that there isn't one! The whole length of the road, both
on the flat and on the hill, is single carriageway with ...
No Scilly MOT!13 Jul 2009 09:04 GMT6
Interesting factoid..
There is no requirement for an MOT on the Isles of Scilly, except for
commercial vehicles. For commercial vehicles a Department of Transport
MOT inspector visits once per year to carry of the MOT's. Coincidently

RANT. WHY?? Is this health and safety out of control?11 Jul 2009 18:51 GMT15
Yesterday there was a serious collision on the southbound M5 near
Weston.S.M. exit, I saw it on the way up not long after it happened,
there was a vehicle on fire, several other vehicles involved and the
helicopter was in the process of evacuating the dead/wounded.
400miles, almost no brakes!11 Jul 2009 16:07 GMT1
During the course of yesterday afternoon and into the evening I towed
at a steady 60 all the way back from Cornwall with only one application
of the brakes whilst on the actual route.
That is ignoring a brief diversion off the route to refuel car and
Dirty diesels09 Jul 2009 00:18 GMT17
Have I just been driving down some strange roads, or are rather a lot of new
diesel cars belching rather nasty black smoke when given a bit of welly?
BMWs 4x4s seem to be the worst but I saw someone hammering an 08 plate
jag X-type yesterday and if you didn't know better you'd ...
Car performance list?08 Jul 2009 22:56 GMT1
Can anyone point me to a web page showing a comprehensive list of
basic performance data for all cars made since at least say 1960?
I'm thinking of something that shows at least make, model, horsepower,
0-60 mph time, 30 - 50 mph time and max speed. After a fair bit of
Bus lanes08 Jul 2009 22:21 GMT4
I was driving through Wembley yesterday.
There was a long bus lane marked 'bus lane 7am-7pm, except event days,
7am-midnight
As the event days were not marked how are you expected to know when
Legality question08 Jul 2009 17:32 GMT129
Possibly a dumb question but - if a car is MOT'd and taxed but *not* insured
is it legal to park it on a public road? I assume it is but I thought I'd
double check just to be on the safe side...
