Longest Stretch of Road19 Nov 2008 07:39 GMT36
What is the longest 'unbroken' stretch of road in the UK? In other
words, a length of road which goes from A to B and has no turn-offs or
any other junctions along its length (excluding access to farms,
housing estates, industrial estates, etc.). I presume it's a length of
dual/single carrageway19 Nov 2008 06:29 GMT12
Must be a sad sod to start thinking of this but...
If you are on a national speed limit (stick to cars) and it's multi lane
with no barrier it's single carrageway 60mph.
If you were on a two lane road, one in either direction, but it had a

What do I do with the drunken neighbour?19 Nov 2008 00:19 GMT92
She's a woman in her early 60's, single, not working though has a
boyfriend who is younger who turns up and stays often.
They share a love of alcohol and rows.  If people complain about the
noise they usually quieten up - until the next one.
Suggestions for new car, suitable for young driver?19 Nov 2008 00:16 GMT13
I need to change my car soon, and since I now have to share my vehicle
with a 17-year-old fledgling driver (my daughter), my criteria have
changed somewhat since last time I did this :-(
My current vehicle is 2.0L Laguna, which is now not exactly ideal
Fuel cell question18 Nov 2008 22:58 GMT83
Is there any technical reason why fuel cells that use petrol can't be
build (I imagine diesel would be too thick)? I realise this means
they'd still release CO2 but wouldn't the fuel consumption would be a
lot less than piston engines because of all the advantages of being
Question regarding partner driving, insurance.18 Nov 2008 21:59 GMT35
Right probly the biggest mistake of my life here.
My son has been learning to drive with an auto and has sat and failed a
practical. He does not want to pay an instructor 3 hours tuition + test fee
so has suggested we buy the car for him (his money) whos name would that go
FFS..f.cking Political Correctness gone mad18 Nov 2008 20:31 GMT27
They're shutting the Hatfield Tunnels on the A1 soon for two years for
refurbishment. A contraflow system will be in place throughout the
time.
And why are they refurbushing them? Because they're falling to bits?
Even worse than "Pay at Pump" drivers18 Nov 2008 20:09 GMT49
I always try to PAP where possible but the Feckers that do me in are the
ones who KNOW 2 or 3 cars are behind them and yet after filling up leave
their car and walk over to shop entrance and pick up a basket/small trolley
and go off into the "express" to do some shopping before ...
"Foreign" cars being towed away if not taxed after 6 months in UK18 Nov 2008 18:56 GMT84
As seen on the BBC this morning.  What's this all about, then?  What
difference does it make in being able to trace a car's owner if it's
been here six months or one week?  And isn't dependence on cameras at
the ports of entry a little unreliable in establishing how long a
BBC footage shows speed cameras causing accidents18 Nov 2008 18:56 GMT149
The primary cause of the two accidents at speed camera locations
appears to have been due to drivers sudden braking on seeing the
cameras.

Pay at pump - selfish drivers18 Nov 2008 18:42 GMT196
The Shell garage I use is busy (it's a lot cheaper than everywhere else around here).  All the pumps (except the LPG ones which is a slight annoyance) have a pay at the pump credit card reader, yet I almost never see anyone bothering to use it.  Instead they all selfishly queue ...
Vans on bridges18 Nov 2008 18:41 GMT34
I was driving along the M4 through Wiltshire today, and I got to
thinking as I watched drivers hoon right pass the speed camera signs
doing the thick end of The Ton, safe in the knowledge that the scamerati
wouldn't be out on a Sunday...
De-icing18 Nov 2008 18:40 GMT56
On frosty mornings when you're de-icing the car by waiting for the
engine to warm up and blow heat through the fans, rather than using a
scraper or de-icer spray, how much would you say it speeds up the
process if you rev the engine aggressively rather than leaving it
Disabled bay laws to win backing (Scotland only)18 Nov 2008 17:24 GMT26
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7725464.stm
Proposed legislation which would see people fined for wrongly parking in
disabled bays will move a step closer to becoming law.
The plans, brought forward in a Bill by Labour MSP Jackie Baillie, are
