Suddenly my -92 740 B230f has developed a rather loud knocking
or tapping sound when cold. It completely dissapears above 2000 rpm.
It only lasts for about 2 minutes, then completely gone.
What could that be?

The max CO is 1.5, I think PPM.  My 240 went to 1.96 at idle, burned clean at
2500 rpm.
The emissions sheet said that a rich idle mixture causes this.  Could a vacuum
leak make it rich?  I thought a leak would make it a little leaner, if the leak

Well, I just dropped my 1994 850 turbo wagon (195K) off at the dealer
today to have the following done:
1. Replace rear main seal, which left a big puddle on the dealer's
drop-off area floor.

Our car managed to break down driving back from the beach this weekend
(after we just fixed another problem).  Here's what happened.

that the battery power would start to die every time we pushed on the

Okay, I brought this 245DL home last weekend, it wouldn't run.  Owner said it
had an intermittent problem, but it wasn't intermittent for me.  Wouldn't
start.  Until I pulled an injector, and tried the starter, and it sprayed.

The red Break warning light comes on at least once or twice a day then
goes out after a day or two. My dealer says that it's because there are
non volvo rear break pads installed. Sounds like an attempt to avoid
warranty service to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Break

I have already used the hex-head screw behind the parking brake under the
pop-off cover, to tighten the parking brake.  I've gone all the way with it,
which I have been told means that I have to go tighten up the cable with
some kind of adjustment at each of the rear brake drums.

* Rear axle without limited slip differential: Hypoid gear oil,
Viscosity SAE 90 EP to API GL5 or GL6.
* Rear axle with limited slip differential: Volvo oil (No. 1 161 276 -

Has 280K, but had U-joints and carrier bearing replaced in the past.  When
going down the highway either in 4th or OD, if I let off the gas and then hit
it, there's short buzz/vibration and/or a clunk that sounds like it's coming
from under the car between the seats, then it smooths ...

I bought a remote that looks identical to my existing remote (on ebay), but
how do I program it to work with my car.

I just picked up an '81 240, and it's been sitting for three years. He parked
it when it started having an intermittent starting problem.
I turns over, then catches as if it's going to start, but only idles roughly
for a second or two before it dies. Immediate attempts to restart ...

I drove it Sat 30 miles or so, and Sunday I started it a couple of times, moved
