The roof strips that run down either side on top of the roof have started to separate and tear. I have seen posts that say to paint or use detailing tape for a "new" look. What is the procedure to remove the strips from the car to fix them?

Last night I drove to taco bell, went through the drive through. I was so hungry I stopped in the parking lot to eat. 5 minutes later I try to start up, no ignition.(no start) Radio, open door signal and lights work though. I had to get a tow back home.
