| '89 245 tires--44 or 35 psi? | 25 Sep 2004 00:53 GMT | 10 |
I've been driving 240 wagons for 20+ years, and have tried different sizes, brands and types of tires. Good quality all season (standard or touring) in a 195/75 14 work well and make the most sense for me. I need a new set, and while I've always had good luck w/ Michelins, I

I bought a 1987 740 Turbo from someone a few days ago. It was only $300 and I really needed a car, having just been in an accident with my only other means of transportation. The can (a wagon) is mechanically in reasonably good shape. The engine

| What is the typical fuel mileage of a 760GLE (B280F?) | 24 Sep 2004 12:48 GMT | 5 |
I'm using around 12.5L/100km as far as fuel consumption on a 1987 Volvo 760 GLE with a B280F. It's got high mileage, at 255K kms, so the engine is on it's way to being worked in ;). Basically, for 50Litres of fuel, I get 400km range (I'm surprised the '87 Volvo doesn't

| Adding a turbo? | 24 Sep 2004 03:13 GMT | 10 |
Looking to buy my first Volvo (see previous post - if you have a 240 or 740 anywhere near Lafayette, IN, please sell it to me!), and I'm curious about what is involved in adding a turbo. I'm guessing I'll end up with a 240 wagon. I know some of the 240s came with turbos, but not ...

| 740 Gear box drip | 24 Sep 2004 01:23 GMT | 2 |
I just had my 740 GLE auto gear box repaired by my long time mechanic. A constant drip from the rear of the box following a 600 mile journey. He came up with a solution which involved new seals/bushes and was carried out on the ramp by machining down the drive shaft and a well aimed ...

| '89 740 belching black smoke | 22 Sep 2004 18:33 GMT | 2 |
I have a 740 (non-turbo) with ~143k on the odometer. It runs really nice, but is exhausting this smoke. It is barely perceptable at idle and just driving easily down the road. When it is accellerated hard it is very obvious. In the old days I would be looking for choke ...
