| Radiator pressure 1988 740 Estate | 06 Jan 2005 14:30 GMT | 4 |
As the water pump pressurises the cooling system based on the revs of the engine the higher the revs the more the water pump pumps the higher the radiator pressure I assume. If this is correct then if the engine is a high revs then the rad pressure

Journey from Torbay to Folkestone (UK) 340 miles approx. Just made it back. 100 miles into the trip with an '87 240 suddenly had minute "outages" from the engine. These gathered in frequency to add up to some serious power loss. 40mph at full throttle (2.3 engine). Pulled in to ...

| dumb question . . . | 06 Jan 2005 04:25 GMT | 9 |
I have "inherited" a 1996 Volvo 850. Not sure if I'll be selling it or trading in, but I'm doing research for both scenarios. It's a sedan, not turbo, but I can't figure out if it's just the 850 or the 850 GLT. Would it say "GLT" on the back of the car if this was the case?

After several Saabs I'm thinking of buying a Volvo wagon, late 80s seems to be what I can afford. About all the advice I can find has to do with disintegrating wiring harnesses and blower motors. Any advice here or a site I can go to with some? Thanks a lot.

| 740 1988 Water, Rad, Pump Cooling system | 05 Jan 2005 08:02 GMT | 2 |
I thought I had a problem with the head gasket on my 1988 740. There was a strong smell in the water header reservoir which I now think may be from changing the water pump, plenty of sealant was used on the water pump so its possibly the sealant I can smell in the water.

I swapped out my Pioneer in dash CD player for a Sony CDX-F5705X so that I could run an audio cable from the back of the stereo into the compartment below it (where I'll can leave my iPod cabled up to the auxiliary input) I noticed my backlighting for my speedometer and rpm and ...

| 850 stays cold | 03 Jan 2005 21:42 GMT | 8 |
Motor never really heats up. Only sometimes when in city traffic. On highway stays under 20% or so.. Thermostat broken? Not the pump nor a leak cause it would run hot, wouldn't it?

| Smoke | 03 Jan 2005 21:06 GMT | 4 |
I have A 94 850 turbo I had just replaced the turbo possibly due to a misdiagnosis but that's beside the point. I had smoke coming out of the exhaust if the car sat idling more than 5 min....If I rev the engine up after idling I get a huge puff of smoke. The smoke clears up ...
