I recently bought a 1991 440 GL 1.7 as my first volvo.
I'd heard that Volvo's were pretty reliable so bought one cheap in the hope
that with a little bit of cash spent on it, a bit of TLC and a good service
now and again I could have a car that would lst me a while. Most of the

TO stop, you have to push the pedal ALL the way to the floor.  The
brake fluid reservoir is topped off. In spite of this the brake
warning light doees not turn on. I don't get any light for brake wear
(if there is one), and the brakes are not making any tell-tale squeals

I actually need to replace the alternator belt, but need to remove the ac
compressor belt to do so. Can anyone who has done this please offer
assistance on loosening tension on the compressor?

I got a 1992 Volvo 240 Wagon, with 165K on it. It is usually just used
for around town trips, I have only owned it two months, but in the two
months I have taked a few 100 mile day trips, a 300 mile day trip, and
a 700 mile weekend trip, I changed the oil, serviced the transmission,

My Haynes manual only covers through 1988 models. Apparently there
were significant changes made in 1989. Mine is an 89 Volvo GL
sedan....was wondering how much of the info in my 82-88 Haynes manual
is valid also for 89. Particularly the electrical system?

Check Engine Light just came on in my 850. I get the all the following
codes:
A1: 124 Mode selector faulty or short circuit to ground
A2: 241 EGR system flow faulty

After about 5 minutes of normal driving, the car cuts out and jerks, like
the fuel is being pinched. If i shut off the car and wait a minute it will
work for another five minutes before starting over again. When I opened the
hood i heard it backfiring. Could this all be a timing ...

1988 740 Estate
I believe I have a sticking throttle cable.
From the test I have carried out it appears to be the cable and not related
to the throttle mechanism.

I have a '98 V70 and the windows will not work.  At the master switch if you
try and lower the driver window it makes a grinding noise from the switch.
All the other buttons are silent. This includes the switches at each door.
Any ideas what the cause is?

2001 V70 2.4 Estate.
I have a strange noise coming from around or behind in the area of the
passenger part of the dash, right hand drive car.
The noise happens around every 10 seconds sometimes less and seems to happen

Hi all you wagon owners,
I'm now on my 2nd Volvo wagon (formerly '86 740 wagon, now a '98 V70)
and sure enough, in both cases I need(ed) to keep fixing the rear door
using the Volvo repair kit (containing new clips, etc...).

Wife's 87 740 wagon tailgate won't open, tried the key and the little lever
in the back. Am I in for some contortionist type stuff in the back to get
this thing open??? TIA dino
