940 Distributor Cap -- Needs a Gasket?22 Aug 2005 13:30 GMT5
Dear NG:
I replaced the cap, maybe the original, at 250k km and found it to be
full of black powder and some oil.  Shouldn't this part require a
gasket or seal?
Mechanics in Baltimore22 Aug 2005 12:31 GMT2
My son is taking our 1985 240 DL to college in Baltimore this year.  I would like to find a reliable mechanic in the Baltimore area.  We are in Houston so this has to be someone that we can trust.
Any suggestions?
TIA

Aircon fix22 Aug 2005 03:37 GMT1
Just thought I'd share this
Aircon was not working on my 2000 V70 classic - mate who's an aircon
engineer topped it up but it hardly took any - still not working.
In the meantime I bought a OBD tester/reader/eraser from eBay for my Jag XJ
shifter linkage - '94 850 5 speed21 Aug 2005 23:11 GMT1
Since I've had this car, the shifter has never really had a good
positive shift feel to it, but now reverse is getting more difficult
to get. I suspect some bushings may be soft or worn, which ones are
most likely to result in a sloppy shifter?
95 850 T5 - Problems Starting21 Aug 2005 15:28 GMT2
After leaving my 850 T5 for a couple of weeks I came back to a flat battery
(perhaps discharged through
the alarm?). Not a big problem I thought - I put the battery on charge over
night, re-fitted, and wouldn't

Volvo V70 - 97-9920 Aug 2005 16:06 GMT4
How reliable are the V70's from 97-99?  I would be interested in any
comments from V70 owners of cars from this era.  Any transmission
issues or other expensive problems to fix?
Cheers,
240 self levelling suspension20 Aug 2005 11:38 GMT18
The suspension in my 1992 240 SE (UK spec) is due for a renovation soon -
the back is saggy and the front shocks are on their way out.
I have the self-levelling type of rear shocks, but I'm considering putting
standard ones on due to the price of the self-levelling units. Do I ...
Power fluctuations on `83 240DL20 Aug 2005 01:25 GMT4
I'm on the road and my 240DL has started giving me serious power
problems.   Turning on anything electronic reduces power from the rest
of the system; the car just stopped being able to keep up with the
power demands.  For example, hitting the brakes causes the lights to

Philadelphia Volvo Mechanic19 Aug 2005 22:23 GMT3
I've got a 1991 240 wagon (160K) with a shake in the steering column
from 40-50 mph (just got used tires put on the front to replace worn
ones, I suspect that they're the problem). I'm new to Philly, any
recommendations for mechanics?
Odometer gear...'94 85019 Aug 2005 22:06 GMT4
Tiny little bugger for $40 isn't it?
Are there any tricks or short cuts beside the Haynes manual
instruction for getting the cluster out?

plastic repair19 Aug 2005 21:13 GMT2
On more than one ocassion I have touted the effectiveness of the 'new'
super glues for plastic as well as the two-part epoxy for plastic
(both products available in the adhesives section of places like
Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.).
