May I inquire about suspensions for a 740?09 Mar 2006 02:29 GMT8
I've gotten a LOT of great help here, so I apologize if I ask a lot of
questions. I'm currently on a 3 phase plan restoring my 1987 740 GLE.
Phase 1 - get it running and solid mechanically. Phase 2- tires,
suspension, steering and brakes. Phase 3 - paint and trim.
740GL symptoms: Rough Idle & Stall while cold08 Mar 2006 13:12 GMT5
1990 740GL, 180K miles.
Starts up great, but while the engine is cold the idle is rough, and
without a tap or light pressure on the gas pedal, the car sputters down
and stalls.  After she gets fully hot (seems to be about 10 minutes),
240 smoke under hood - not oil leak08 Mar 2006 13:12 GMT7
My 1985 240 has high miles, so maybe this is a belt problem, but I don't
know. Smoke comes from where the crank shaft (I don't even know if I'm
using the right terminology here) goes forward to meet the belts - toward
the front center under the hood. It's most noticeable when first ...
90 Volvo 740 GLE brakes squeal  08 Mar 2006 13:06 GMT2
It's not even a couple of months old after I serviced and replaced front
brakes (rotors/pads) and began to squeal.  Checked it and didn't notice any
unusual problems besides guide pins are a little tight so I loosen 'em a
bit.
93 245 -- No start08 Mar 2006 05:05 GMT1
My wife was driving our wagon (126K) on the freeway at about 50 mph and
she went to accelerate and nothing.  she was able to get over to the
side of the road where the engine died completely.  Don't know if it
was sputtering, or engine completely cut out or what. Had it towed to
Resevoir caps for 760?08 Mar 2006 01:11 GMT5
I bought a new coolant tank cap.  The only choice I had was "Green".  What
do the colours designate?  My original one is a different colour.
I've also noticed that the fuel filler caps come in different colours.
What gives? ;)
flutter sound ('85 240)07 Mar 2006 20:29 GMT3
I hope someone might have a good guess as to what's causing a mild
fluttering -- sounds kind of like an exhaust pipe leak starting to
happen, but I'm not sure cuz it seems more like it's coming from
somewhere a bit higher toward the engine. It's louder when I apply
German Auto Parts -- VERY bad communications07 Mar 2006 19:41 GMT2
Just to follow up. I ordered some crankshaft bearings (.020") from
German Auto Parts (www.germanparts.com).
They seemed to be the only place showing they had these bearings in
stock, and their price was about $45 cheaper than the dealer, so I
New S8007 Mar 2006 07:47 GMT1
Anyone seen the picture and web site yet?  Looks like Volvo has a very
beautiful (inside, non descript outside) fully equipped car with out the
silly interface devices all the Germans seem to like, a car eons above the
Caddy STS and just a whole nuther thing then a Lexus or Infiniti ...
Inspected my blower motor -- ARRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!07 Mar 2006 05:40 GMT5
OK, I have to stop believing that just because someone in this forum
writes "it's a piece of cake", that this is true.
Just having 4 screws does not make a piece of cake, when your fingers
have to be the size of a 5 year old's, and you have to be a
Replaced ignition switch -- ARRRRGGGGGHH!!!!!!07 Mar 2006 01:05 GMT8
Looks like I played another game of "Not Fun" with the 740 tonight.
The good -- I found a switch on eBay that also came with a window
switch. I paid $10 for the pair.
The bad -- It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a screwdriver in there to
1990 740 2ltr Speedo (again)07 Mar 2006 00:57 GMT1
a while ago I posted about an issue with my speedo packing up. I've finally
got round to sorting it out and have hit a brick wall in terms of progress.
I managed to find a working speedo in another 740 (same year, same engine
etc). I drove the donating car to check the speedo and ...
Which Diesel?07 Mar 2006 00:44 GMT5
Me again .... yup, yet another question!!
I have just been reading the .pdf brochure, on the VOC website, for the 2003
year s60.
It list only one diesel, listed as 'D5'
Replacing stero in a 1992 Volvo 940 Turbo06 Mar 2006 23:58 GMT3
Thinking of replacing the stero in my car, anyone done this to before for the
above make and model?
Thanks
940 threatening to stall at low revs06 Mar 2006 23:55 GMT1
I have a 1992 940 turbo.
When the engine is warm, at low revs, it's threatening to stall. The
rev counter drops to 500 and, naturally, you try to get this back up by
feeding some throttle through. But this doesn't always help, almost as
