Nasty bit of business - need advice30 Nov 2003 22:47 GMT19
I'm endeavoring to get some heat into this '71 bus. The bit of metal
that the heater cable attaches to on the heater box on the driver's side
is pretty munched up. See www.ariaaudio.com/VW.htm
The part with the bolt that holds the cable end to this bit of metal is

car-men-gee-huh and beetle and many parts for sale.30 Nov 2003 12:46 GMT2
Posting for my neighbor.
He has the last year the Ghia was made.  Has a stuck valve.
He also has an early 60's beetle with moon roof, the kind that rools back.
He has enough parts to build several engines and many fenders, plus many
My first bus!30 Nov 2003 07:32 GMT4
No more lurking, this is my first post as a vw owner.
Today I lucked out. I was the first one there with the cash and managed
to pick up a '71 bay window with a T2 1776.  The engine is new but died
when the PO got caught in a flood, and it ran like crap after. Turns out

bug running crappy29 Nov 2003 22:07 GMT5
I'm hoping someone may give me a little direction on this.
Yesterday, after driving at 65mph for about 1/2 hour my 74 std bug stalled out
on the highway and wouldn't restart. I had a previous problem of clogged fuel
line. Thought I had that fixed but figured maybe not. I pulled the ...

Armature from one generator, field windings from another... what are the odds of it working?29 Nov 2003 02:31 GMT3
Well... tested the three generators I have handy... one had a good field
coil but the armature was weak... the other had good armature but weak field
coils... based upon the advice that fluxuating (unsteady) voltage reflects
weak field winding. So I was going to try to build a ...
What is 'old' to you?29 Nov 2003 02:31 GMT52
Forgive me, but when I read that someone wants to restore a
seventy-something Bug I get flashes of "Why bother?" and I think of things
like when was last time I cleaned the fridge.
But Old is different to different people. To me, a Split-window Bug is 'old'.
Pancake T1?29 Nov 2003 01:49 GMT24
Help. I'm stupid.  We are having a discussion in a web group. A guy has a
'73 Bus. Says the engine number begins with "CB", but it's a pancake
engine, dual carbs, allegedly stock. I could swear the '73 Bus had a T4
engine and VW didn't make a pancake T1. Or did they?
OT told ya so29 Nov 2003 01:43 GMT2
I read in "Newsweek" that  the snoop powers we gave the government has
been used in dozens of cases........None of them had anything to do with
terrorists.  When federal prosecutors were asked about this they said
they have a perfect right to use the tools congress and the president
Unreliable horn28 Nov 2003 21:07 GMT6
The horn on my '68 transporter has become very unreliable. The horn
itself is pretty new. Any ideas on what I should be looking for?

turning drums / oversized pads28 Nov 2003 18:05 GMT9
Poor bug's been sitting unused for the past month until I got
the time/energy to tend to the brakes (which badly need it), and
I sat down this morning to start on the task.
Started the rear first, and got stuck on reassembly.
