Speculation please?02 Dec 2003 14:48 GMT5
I'm worried about my CJ5.  Yesterday while driving home from the
trails I got out on the highway and got up to about 75 mph in a hurry
to merge, then slowed down to about 65.  Maybe 30 seconds later
several LOUD bangs/knocks (about 10-15 maybe) came from what sounded
Stock Cam Specs?02 Dec 2003 14:47 GMT5
Hey Guys,
What is the total lift, from heel to peak lobe, of a stock VW dual
relief, dual port cam?  My current POS measures 0.365" total.  I'm
thinking about ratio rockers and I want to make sure that I don't drive
Conversion Shops in L.A.?02 Dec 2003 12:19 GMT17
I found a couple of places online that will import a VW from Mexico and swap
the pan so that it's okay to register(new other than the old pan) - but they
want twice what a VW in Mexico costs.
Q: is there someplace where I can get this done at a reasonable price?
Type IV engine vs Type I which is more practical?02 Dec 2003 05:34 GMT17
A buddy of mine has a complete type iv engine that he wants to get rid of for
cheap. I have a '68 Westy with a 1600 dp which is running well but in time will
need to be replaced. I am tempted to take the type 4 engine off my friend's
hands but I wonder if it is a good idea. I know ...

priming02 Dec 2003 01:58 GMT3
What are some of the things that can be done to prime a newly rebuilt 40hp?
In general, due to the cold, I've heard that this time of the year is'nt
really the best time to even run an air cooled motor.
Any thoughts here?
Do it myself? Or let the shop?02 Dec 2003 01:24 GMT17
I posted this under a different, older thread, a couple days ago, but
I'd like to make it a standalone topic so I can get all the good advice
this NG is famous for.*
For my 71 bus's new engine, I asked my local VW shop to quote installing
Got my new tach today...02 Dec 2003 01:00 GMT2
Hey guys.  I got my new tach for my 73 Beetle from another Ebayer
today.  52 MM diameter (that's a little over 2 inches for you
metricaly impaired) 6000 RPM range, X100 figures, not x1000 (I don't
like x1000 anyway...x100 is just so much more GERMAN) and the choice
Engine recomendations02 Dec 2003 00:55 GMT18
Hi RAMVA! Right now I'm in the process of restoring the '73 SB. This is the
time to start thinking about what size/type/extras of engine I'll be putting
back in there. This car will be a daily driver, so reliability and
durability are important. Also, I would like to keep the fuel ...

Regulator Question01 Dec 2003 22:24 GMT4
I went out and started my bug and let it run for a while.  It has been
sitting for a couple weeks.  As I was sitting there listening to the sweet
purrrr of the flat four, I notice that my inside lights were blinking
slightly.  Then I notices a soft ticking sound coming from the ...
Drive Shaft comparison01 Dec 2003 21:19 GMT7
Does anyone know for sure whether the drive shafts for a Beetle are
the same as for a KArmann Ghia?  I think they are but need to confirm.
It looks like I can special order complete drive shafts at my local
auto parts store but I want to make sure in case I cannot return them.
Front Beam ID #01 Dec 2003 19:22 GMT1
Sometime before I bought my 67 some moron swapped the entire front end out
for a later model one. I was unsure what year it came off, but I am assuming
(going with the odds) that it is mid-68 or later...But I had no real way to
tell until now! While disassembling the beam to install ...
