Hog Ring Upholstery29 Dec 2003 08:25 GMT5
Hey Everyone,
Ripped out the interior of the Beetle yesterday and have decided to
re-upholster the front and rear seats. I don't want to cheap out and use the
slip on upholstery kits, so I was looking at the Hog Ring kits that CIP
DOH!  What happened?!29 Dec 2003 04:15 GMT5
Well...just ran a tune up on my 73 type 1 1600DP.  Replaced rotor,
cap, points and condenser, and adjusted the valves.  Here's the wierd
thing.
It was about 20 degrees out today, so I *pushed* the car into the
Brake vacuum line -- where do it connect?29 Dec 2003 04:09 GMT52
Finally figured out what this loop of hose in the engine compartment is:
the vacuum line for the brake master cylinder. I've traced it from the
vacuum-powered brake servo back into the engine compartment, then it
disappears forward of the shroud. Bentley's is coy about telling ...

some time ago I read about a torque multiplier tool that could be used
for easy removal of the rear brake drums.
Does anyone here know:
What is this tool called?
Pok! vs. backfire28 Dec 2003 22:51 GMT18
The lads at VW Paradise sorta kinda neglected to fully tighten the clamp
that holds the ignition coil so it fell loose. When it did, the
Wonderbus lost power and I negotiated to the shoulder of the road. Got
some amazingly loud backfires in the process. Everything's been pasted
Tightening Torque: heater box to head?28 Dec 2003 21:59 GMT25
Without Guesswork doesn't seem to have this useful bit. The nuts that go
onto the two studs where you mount the heater boxes to the engine -
what's our torque there?
And if it is in WOG, where?
Seat spring repair advice28 Dec 2003 05:04 GMT3
Merry Christmas to all that celebrate it! Tis' the season (for me at
least) to tackle making my 75 SB seat more comfortable in '04.
I've taken off the front drivers seat covers and noticed that some of
the springs are broken (spiral rods/springs are severed). Advice for:
Beetle, eBay around the world28 Dec 2003 03:20 GMT14
Just had some fun surfing eBay in Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Canada
(yep, all different). Funny how Beetles aren't particularly easy to find
over there.
But y'all want to get big bucks for your late model? Canada maybe?

Hello Group,

some trouble idling at low revs. stalls a lot. i've adjusted the idling
screw as far as it'll go, but it doesn't help; can anyone tell me exactly
where the "volume control screw" is? it's marked on a diagram ...

watercooled group but now I can't find it.

Engine Knocks After Oil Change!  HELP!28 Dec 2003 00:20 GMT20
I parked my 2003 Mexibeetle in my garage about two weeks ago and I just
changed the oil in it today for the first time.  I started it up to fill
the filter and re-check the fluid, etc, and it now makes a loud knock.
It sounds like valvetrain but I don't know.  It gets faster in

Procedure27 Dec 2003 22:15 GMT1
Up until now, I have been puttering along with the Beetle, fixing what
needed fixing, but I have also been reading VWT's '71 Super Beetle
restoration, and it got me thinking about the procedure to follow for
semi-restoring my car (i.e. a "Boatcop" www.boatcop.com restoration).
