'64 chassis and '72 Body compatible?27 Jul 2005 17:30 GMT1
I posted this question on another news group and was told to put it
here.  I have a good '64 chassis and a friend has a '72 Body that we'd
like to put together.  What are the modifications, if any, that are
required to make this union complete?  I'm assuming at the moment that

Petrol Fumes26 Jul 2005 21:23 GMT4
I regularly get petrol fumes inside my beetle ( 1973 1200cc) ...always when
I fill about a 1/3 tank or over, and also going on and off round-abouts. I
assume there must be a leak in the tank but I can't see any evidence. There
is no smell of fumes from under the bonnet or the ...
steering box big nut26 Jul 2005 09:37 GMT2
I was checking one more time my steering box to trace the knocking noise. Looks like
that the drop arm moves a little up and down making the noise. Can this be solved
by adjusting the big nut on the steering box? I have already adjusted the one on
the top. If yes, how can I do that? ...

I'm a lucky guy26 Jul 2005 03:05 GMT3
I was adjusting the valves and got a big surprise on #3.  Retaining clip
broken off and the rocker could slide from seat to center of shaft.
Nothing damaged.  I put new clip on and continued.  New heads about 1500
miles ago...not rebuilt.  Anyone else had this happen?  The rockers ...

work.  Checked bulbs - OK.

DeckLid Spring26 Jul 2005 00:21 GMT4
Let me introduce myself first.  My name is Bob and I live in Kitchener,
Ontario, Canada.  I decided to purchase a 68 VW Bug last summer which was in
great shape (restored) and just needed small tweaks here and there.  I am
not a show car type of person...I just like to bomb ...

Shameless, blatant plug for an ebay auction.

What's the harm in retarding or advancing?24 Jul 2005 08:07 GMT2
My 77 'vert was getting sluggish, so I adjusted valves, changed the oil &
tuned it up to factory specs, but still sluggish. VW and Bentley both say
the timing should be set at 5 degrees ATDC. I decided to experiment a bit,
and set it at about 2 1/2 ATDC. What a difference! Much ...
'67 Beetle: Correct Tire Size24 Jul 2005 05:30 GMT6
Hi, I found a pretty good '67 VW and need new tires. It has 5.60X15
now. I see about three common sizes of radials: 165X15, 155X15, and
145X15. Which is closest to my tire size? I like the original look of
the 5.60s and don't want tires which look too big (diameter and/or
68' Westy Front Door Alignment24 Jul 2005 04:36 GMT7
I have a 68' Westy and the front doors don't lign up evenly around the
frame.....looks crappy. They do close and latch, but kind of bump into
the latches instead of tansitioning smoothly into the latches. The
hinges and latches appear tight and the doors do not move if you lift
Finding a part23 Jul 2005 21:57 GMT2
Maybe this has been mentioned before but...
I needed a part.  It was unavailable/no longer made.  Checked
aircooled.net, mamotorworks, etc.  Rebuilt part available from big
internet VW site.  Bought it.  Didn't work right.
