Engine Shaking06 Jul 2005 18:05 GMT5
I just baught this '65 bug a few weeks ago. At the time it didn't run.  I
got it running in only a few hours. I did a typical tune up, plugs wires,
filters, coil, replaced the points with electronics. Anyways... When I put
it in gear, it feels like the engine is trying to jump out ...

smoke and oil06 Jul 2005 03:47 GMT2
My buddy's 2000+ cc buggy motor still pull strong and runs strong but it
smokes like a mofo after you let off the gas after a hard pull. It puffs
smoke out of the breather hose contunusouly while idling when warm and
there's oil everywhere under the motor. I think a lot of the ...

Saw the new Herbie Movie Today05 Jul 2005 19:33 GMT5
Saw the movie. It was entertaining.  The only question I have is how
did Mike Yager from Mid America Motorworks get his banner so
prominately displayed in the movie.  I guess he provided some parts, or
paid a steep advertising fee.  The only hokey thing in the movie is
CD/MP3 player in radio slot - '71 Ghia05 Jul 2005 16:32 GMT10
I've wanted to install a cd/mp3 player in my Ghia, but all that I've seen
won't fit the existing slot. I do not want to cut/enlarge the slot. Any
suggestions or ideas ?
Thanks,
Alternator Belt Break and overheat05 Jul 2005 08:52 GMT78
I have a brand new engine in a 74 Super Beetle...installed in April.
The Alternator belt broke on my way home and I drove about 10 miles
to the nearest lighted area.
The engine was smoking... I thought the aircooling system was ran off
Funny timing behavior05 Jul 2005 00:12 GMT6
Hi ramva! I just finished cleaning up the engine (cleaning inside out,
changing all gaskets, fixing exhaust studs) and it definetely feels crisper.
I checked the compression (twice), changed the spark plugs and wires,
adjusted the valves and adjusted the carb on idle. there is ...

Why is the front axle filled with grease on a 71 Ghia?  Just wondering.

re: studs broken off04 Jul 2005 00:36 GMT2
Yesterday i got the exhaust back on my brother's 1302!

This sounds simple to the most of you but i had to drop the engine to drill
the studs out. And this was the first time to me... pfffeeww... it all went
bumper question03 Jul 2005 20:58 GMT3
Eventually I'll need new bumpers or get the bumpers I have rechromed so have
been looking around what's out there.
When going to the Litchfield show and while checking out thesamba and ebay,
my eye fell on these cool looking "towelbar" bumpers. They look so much
2001 new beetle power window problem03 Jul 2005 20:57 GMT1
I’m trying to repair the passenger side power window.  The cable is
twisted and resembled a plate of spagetti after I got inside the door
panel and took a look.  Problem is I can not remove the inner panel of
the door to get to the window.  What do I need to do to get in there?
Brake Leak03 Jul 2005 14:31 GMT1
Are there any thread sealers impervious to brake fluid. I
replaced the brake lite switches in my 70 Beetle, careful not to
over-tighten, but they leaked. I have gradually tightened them
and watched for leaks, but they keep seeping. If I tighten any
Transmission Recommendations in the Dallas Area?03 Jul 2005 13:30 GMT1
Yep. I haven't pulled it yet, but I suspect I need a transmission for
the '59 Beetle. Sounds like it is eating itself when the engine is
running. I was wondering if anyone knows of a source for transmissions
of this vintage in the DFW area. A good source.
