| Rear wheel bearing mystery | 31 Dec 2005 18:55 GMT | 7 |
I repacked the CV joints and replace the rear wheel bearings on my '73 Superbeetle. The problem is that when I have the bearings and spacers all in place on the starboard side, the last spacer doesn't project out far enough

| thermostat! | 31 Dec 2005 08:36 GMT | 15 |
Can't seem to find anywhere I can buy/order/salvage a thermostat to actuate my cooling flaps. My flaps are jammed on the "hot" position for now as she (73 type 1) runs cool even on the hottest of days. However, snow's a-commin' soon here in CO. Should I even be concerned

| Rust repair rear fender mounts | 31 Dec 2005 04:31 GMT | 3 |
Has anyone documented the repair of the rear fender area, specifically rusted out fender mount holes? My '71 beetle is far beyond the point of just welding in the nut inserts. Upon inspection from inside the car, it looks like the PO had some sheetmetal welded over the rust out, and ...

| Thermostat with cool tin and 1 5/8 merged exhaust | 30 Dec 2005 01:33 GMT | 12 |
I've got a stock thermostat setup on an engine I'm putting together for a type 1 with cool tin (no lower sheet metal) and 1 5/8 merged headers (no heater boxes). Will this compromise the proper functioning of the stock thermostat? Thinking about it, it seems that the original VW

| Modifying a VW for the postapokalyptic future .... | 29 Dec 2005 23:25 GMT | 18 |
You know, 2006 is near, the nuclear war with Iran is only a few months ahead. After that, the Earth will be a desert, radioactive and most parts uninhabitable.

| heated seats and power windows. | 28 Dec 2005 23:45 GMT | 17 |
First off, Merry Christmas to you all! I have aquired an 85 Jetta (for parts) with power windows and heated seats. I know I can make the seats fit as I already have jetta seats in my 74 super, but I'm wondering if the power window setup will fit in

| New shoe brakes | 28 Dec 2005 15:01 GMT | 9 |
Today I will replace the shoes of my front brakes. They were contaminated the last time I paraffin the chassis and the power brake was significantly reduced which isn't a good think since the brakes aren't powerful even when in good condition.

| My heater set-up | 28 Dec 2005 02:24 GMT | 1 |
I put a blower under rear seat to blow inside air backwards thru the right heater box then a double elbow tube connects to the other heater box in the engine compartment . this re-uses compartment air , no Outside air or engine compartment air.

| Coil and Dizzy questions (lots of them) | 28 Dec 2005 00:39 GMT | 3 |
Hello all and merry xmas! I'm using all the free time I have on these days to check everything on the bug and make sure all is perfect. I have a bosch blue coil installed in it, coupled to a 009 dizzy (I got lucky with this one, almost no flat spot), and
