oill seal keeps blowing30 Apr 2006 18:08 GMT3
The crankshaft oil seal on my bro's bus keeps blowing, we're not sure why.
The engine, a '74 tp,  is in good condition, no blow by, breather pipe is
clear and pressure relief valve moves freely. After 3 years of perfect
running it's blown 3 in as many months! We've tried black ...

pop pop pop29 Apr 2006 21:43 GMT1
After 8 garage years I had my VW fixed up to the point where it ran well (I
thought), today on my first excursion out into the real world it started
backfiring out the right side tail pipe like crazy after it warmed up.  On
top of this I think it blew up through the carb a few times ...

Timing marks for engine code AS28 Apr 2006 19:33 GMT3
Can anyone clarify what timing mark I should use for my 1600 type 2
engine code AS - I am getting a lot of conflicting info and cant find a
reference to the AS engine code. Is it 7.5 BTDC as seems to be fairly
standard?
looking for VW specific junkyard in Oklahoma I went to 10 years ago28 Apr 2006 17:46 GMT6
Howdy,
I am looking for a VW specific salvage yard, or really any place I can get
cheap used alloy wheels to match one of mine that went out of round from
some really cool pointy rocks on a roadtrip.
Vacuum Hoses PICT3028 Apr 2006 17:07 GMT5
My '73 Super has a 1600DP with a Pict30/31 carb.  I have some rough
acceleration when the weather is cool.  I don't think my preheater is
working properly.  I found a picture of the vacuum hoses for a PICT34
on a '73 at Rob & Dave's website.  According to my understanding from
Front Suspension No Travel28 Apr 2006 16:15 GMT5
I have a 69 bug with an adjustable front beam, ball joints, short
shocks, and Karman Ghia disc brakes on the front end.  This suspension
won't move up when the car is on the ground.  I can jump on the front
end and it won't move.  Been this way for 17 years since I put the
Ignition dead28 Apr 2006 14:12 GMT3
I went out to start my '69 Bug for the first time in 4 years, today. Cranks
over fine, but no fire to plugs.
Unfortunately, mice made a nest at the fuse panel area under the hood and
the urine has eaten up some of the wire terminals.
E85 conversion:  Can it be done?28 Apr 2006 00:51 GMT11
I was just wondering if anyone knows how to convert a 1600 to use E85
alternative fuel???  Or Bio-Diesel????  THanks!
74 VW 1800 Bus burnt out exhaust valve.  Now what?27 Apr 2006 22:45 GMT5
G'day folks,
I'm after some advice about my VW pop-top camper.  So you know what I
actually have, I call it a 74 Kombi, a guy I know in the UK calls it a
'Bay Window' and a friend in New Jersey calls it a 'Microbus.'  It has
VW maintenance shops27 Apr 2006 22:32 GMT4
This is just a general question to all of you about the shops in your area.
All of those in the Houston Area that I am aware of or have been to, don't
make you feel too at ease about leaving your car with them. All are a big
mess, junk everywhere, dark garage interior, junked ...
hotVWs news stand price increase27 Apr 2006 21:40 GMT20
hotVWS has increased from $3.99 to $4.99 if bought at the news stand.  Do you
think the lack of competition because of the demise of VW Trends had anything to
do with that?  If you were to buy only four issues a year, you would be paying
the same as a 12 month mailed subscription ...
