My vert may come out of hibernation...30 May 2006 23:48 GMT4
Okay, so she's not going to be driven anytime soon, but I did order my
new upholstery from aircooled.net the other day.  This will be my first
step towards putting the car back together after all of the time I
spent taking it apart/stripping paint/losing parts after moving :-)
porsche generator?30 May 2006 21:44 GMT2
I was given a 72ish dual port motor recently and a friend of mine mentioned
it might have a Porsche generator on it. Is there any way to tell if it is
and how much that might be worth?
Okay, give me heck, but I forgot...30 May 2006 01:50 GMT18
Okay. The '58 is coming out of storage after (how long?) So, which way does
the gas tank switch turn for main and for reserve? It's in the middle (off)
now.
I hope Joey answers first.

I'm having trouble with the drivers-side doorlock.
It's getting more difficult to open the door from the outside.
I think it all started when i had to adjust the door real tight to make the
doorrubber seal water tight. I could feel the resistant in the doorhandle

car show28 May 2006 17:45 GMT2
I went to an open car show today about 80 miles from here.  I went cause
they had a foreign car class.  I competed against a few Beetles and two

which I like better.  Anyway a great day for an air cooled Puma in

Makeshift tachometer28 May 2006 15:31 GMT10
I would like to measure the RPM of my type 4 engine, but I don't have a
tachometer.
I do however have a digital multimeter which can measure frequency. In
this mode it displays the frequency of an incoming signal in Hertz.
Removal of exhaust studs27 May 2006 18:58 GMT4
After years of sitting in a mouse infested barn, my newly aquired 69
beetle project has a few tricky nuts and bolts.  I was amazed how mouse
urine can eat metal.   1 of my exhaust studs has the treads rusted off.
I've tried to unscrew it with a vicegrip ( soaked it overnight with ...
Removing rear gear rod splitty27 May 2006 18:16 GMT2
Ok, is it possible to replace the rear shift rod on a 64 splitty without
removing the engine and transmission? i.e. will it come out from the
front, at the moment the handbrake bracket is in the way, but I wondered
if removing it would be in vain.

Funfest in Effingham27 May 2006 04:08 GMT1
Planning to leave midwest Illinois Friday about 2:00pm
taking the first road trip in my recently aquired 71 Westy.
Can anyone tell me where they are camping as we'd love to spend some
time with other VW people.
Key switch and other issues26 May 2006 18:27 GMT16
What was the first year that bugs had the key switch in the column?
The reason I ask is I recently bought what was supposedly a 69 standard
beetle. I talked with another guy who has a 70 and his key switch is in
the dash. Another problem with the switch is when ya pull the key out
