Turn signal warning light problems31 Oct 2006 17:10 GMT2
I've just replaced the Hazard warning light switch and turn signal
relay on my 69 KG. The old switch was very hit and miss and the relay
made the lights flash way too fast.
Problem - The warning light at the bottom of the speedo only works when
Type IV engine case sealant27 Oct 2006 08:02 GMT3
I'm going to be rebuilding a Type IV from a 914 soon, and was wondering
what the collected wisdom is concering sealing the case halves.
In aircraft practice, one embeds a silk thread in the sealing compound
looping it around bolts, studs, etc, so the sealant isn't all crushed
biofuel27 Oct 2006 03:50 GMT4
I read this week in a "tree hugger/meditation /good for the earth" book
that vw motors will run on biofuel with very little changes made to the
motor.  Does anyone in this group have any knowledge of this.  I have
run bio in my old 63 diesel Internation Jeep with very little change
head repair27 Oct 2006 03:17 GMT4
Son has an otherwise good head that has an exhaust
stud completely pulled out of the head. Can this be
drilled and heli-coiled? If so, what is a good source
of drill/tap/helicoils? He is in So. Cal. Orange county

I rebuilt my '77 bus engine 15 years ago but am having to do it again
since the bolts that hold the cam to the cam gear came loose on the
reground cam I had installed. I originally used Permatex avaition
sealer to seal the case, case bolts and head studs. One side was

speedo calibration25 Oct 2006 18:43 GMT13
Me again with yet another question.  Here is my yet another "minor"
problem.  I have 165/45R15s tires on the front (droped from 195/50) and
now my speedo is way off, by which I mean i am reading 70 while going
around 50. And 80 while in the right lane on the freeway.  Which looks

I haven't fully gotten into it but at first looks it would make you

12v motor converted to 6v24 Oct 2006 05:11 GMT5
What is the easiest (read cheepest) way to convert a 1600 12v
motor for use in a 6v car. This is a temp. conversion, while the
original motor is being rebuilt. My son wants to keep the car
as stock/original as possible.
71 Auto Sick Up date and a few Questions....24 Oct 2006 04:36 GMT1
I took my Bug yesterday back to my Mechanic.  He confirrmed today that
it was the fan belt and has tightened it up.  He's going to check the
points and the timing as well as change the oil.
Which would be best/cheapest.  All four of my Fenders ahve small dings.

Virginia Restoration / Customization22 Oct 2006 07:34 GMT3
I'm the proud owner of a '71 Super that I have neglected entirely too long,
and it doesn't look like I'll have time in the foreseeable future to be able
to do work on the car myself.  That said, I'd like to find a reputable shop
that does restoration / customizations of the old ...
need transmission fill plug21 Oct 2006 12:30 GMT8
This may sound rather simple, but I'm having a hard time trying to find
a replacement transmission filler plug for my '68 swing axle tranny.
This covers the hole where you top off the tranny fluid.
The plug that's in there now is badly damaged.  Looks like the PO had a
