Brakes issue28 Feb 2007 15:39 GMT7
Hi guys. I have a 1965 Type 1 that is giving me headaches. When I try to
brake, the pedal hits the floor. Pumping the brakes causes the brakes to
hold, albeit not too well. I have bled the complete system, including the 4
wheel cylinders and the master cylinder, and I have also ...
Reflection On Winter In A VW28 Feb 2007 11:32 GMT14
I've been driving the vw all winter this year. It has been an
excellent car. We had some major ice storms around here a few weeks
ago and my car had no problems getting out and about, avoiding ditches
and the rear-ends of other people's cars. Work even had me go around
Engine size27 Feb 2007 19:51 GMT12
Help, I need to know what engine is in my bug. It is not the original.
Previous owner put a rebuilt in several years ago but doesn't remember
anything about it.  I know about the numbers at the bottom of the
alternantor stand, but they are not there. Only the firing numbers and

Rust repair around rear window26 Feb 2007 02:23 GMT1
Hello, Ladies and Gentlemen
This is my first visit here after several years. (Used to be a regular when
I was doing the kit car project.)  A couple of days ago I bought a 1969
Bug.  It runs OK, the interior is rough, and the body is in great shape
Previous Owner Syndrome25 Feb 2007 14:52 GMT10
Interesting... something I hadn't noticed before.  I was going over the
wiring diagram for my '66 Beetle, and I noticed that the front turn signal
assemblies are not wired to have a parking/running light them, yes I know
that there is the parking/running light in the headlight ...
a Volvo almost killed us.25 Feb 2007 11:54 GMT3
O.T.?

ran the other  light at about 30 mph. we are still shakey.
It was that close.  if we had the cappucino  we might moved  a little

Brake drums23 Feb 2007 06:14 GMT1
Fellow air-cooled drivers,
I saw 2 rear brake drums at a garage sale over the weekend.  The drums are
used but appear to be in great condition.  The guy selling them owned a VW
Bug but sold it.  He thinks the drums are German but is not sure.  I see the
VW 1968 ignition switch23 Feb 2007 01:09 GMT9
Hi, could anyone explain to me how the ignition switch works? I own a 1968
Beetle and I have a serious problem with ignition: when I turn the key, i do
not feel any "resistence" between the second and the third position... at
the end neither the engine nor the starter itself work ...
Removing the armrest22 Feb 2007 17:21 GMT8
I have a 2002 jetta TDI and the armrest between the two seats appears
to be coming loose.  It no longer stays in place when you adjust it
and there is a gap between the two sides, as if the bolts are
loosening.
Rearview mirror22 Feb 2007 07:30 GMT4
Hello Ramva,
A buddy of mine gave me his spare rearview mirror.
It's the one which you can 'click' away with a knop at the bottom.
My guess is it's from a mexi beetle since he owned one.
Beetle vs Super Beetle22 Feb 2007 07:26 GMT17
I'm talking about pre-1998 Beetles. What years were the Super Beetles
produced for US customers? What years were the regular Beetles produced for
US customers?
I have read many comments from supposed experts that say the regular Beetle
Almost OT and STUPID question22 Feb 2007 02:46 GMT7
Okay, so my lady's (mumble, mumble) American car is losing air in the
front tires like crazy. It's winter. She's got aluminum rims. I can't
believe we got slow rubber/compound leaks in both at once.
IF the issue is the rims, can something be done to seal 'em up? Do I
