1971 Engine Wont Start30 Apr 2008 23:10 GMT19
Hello - Dissapointed with this one.. I have a 1960 Bug, converted to
12v. All new wiring, and it has an AK 1600cc.. So probably around
1971. Runs great. Never had a problem in 2 years. I put it in reverse
and parked it 3 days ago. Just got a license plate to take it down the
Not alot of springy in my carb28 Apr 2008 19:53 GMT5
I rebuilt my carb over the weekend.  It's a Solex 30-PICT 3.  It's
running ... okay.  But still a little chuggy - and when I am running
high in gear (just before I would switch) it gurgles a little bit like
it's hungry.
Starter Woes-again28 Apr 2008 06:08 GMT13
I replaced my starter (in my 77 Bug) with a rebuilt one.  I bench tested it
and it works.  I connected all the wires (plus a ground) under the car and
it works.
I installed it in the car, and it clicks, doesn't turn over.  I take it out
Testing the waters with my 1967 Bus27 Apr 2008 01:39 GMT27
No, I'm not going to test the waters by making a boat out of it.  But I
did think of cutting the front end off behind the doors and hanging it
in my living room, or cutting it lengthwise about 2' deep and hanging
it up, just open the doors and find a big screen television with
Exhaust /muffler bolts - what should I use so I can get them off next     time?25 Apr 2008 01:57 GMT8
Having just spent several hours sawing the 3 bolts from between the 4
into 1 and twin quiet pack exhaust I was thinking there must be a
better way to fix it back on. I tried all the usual methods to get
them off but in the end sawing was the only option. I was a very
Convertible window frames25 Apr 2008 01:39 GMT1
I have a 70 convertible and the top of the metal frame on the passenger
side window has come loose.  Can anyone in the group give me some
insight on what kind of glue and tips on glueing.
Thanks.
Alternator top pulley23 Apr 2008 19:24 GMT6
Okay, have a weird one for you all. Subject car is a 1974 super
beetle, stock Motorola alternator.
The pulley(not original) on the alternator sits out too far. There are
no shims behind the pulley adapter or between the adapter and the rear
Strut Assembly Diagram23 Apr 2008 11:05 GMT2
Does anyone have an exploded view diagram of the front strut assembly
for a 1973 Superbeetle?  I am rebuilding mine, but it looks like the
previous owner didn't put them back together properly.  I have the VW
Service manual (made by Bentley), but it only has a diagram of the
Are front suspensions interchangeable?22 Apr 2008 00:02 GMT7
Can you put a early type 1 bug torsion bar suspension on a 67 pan and vise
versa? I thought they were interchangeable. Yeah I know they are different
in the way they work but that the attachment points are  the same aren't
they?
How to replace instrument lamps?21 Apr 2008 03:04 GMT6
I am reposting this question as I was unable to apply the suggestions
sent in response to  the last post.
What is the proper way to get at the instruments in order to replace
lamps in a 1978 bug Cabriolet?  There is a steel panel in the front
Bug stalls a few times then doesn't start...20 Apr 2008 23:38 GMT5
My 77 Bug seems to really strain when starting even after replacing the
starter (approx 6 mos ago).  I have a new battery.  A couple of weeks ago I
was driving home from a friends house, who lives about 5 miles away.  I
started the Bug, drove about a mile and it just stalled.  ...
what does that part do?20 Apr 2008 23:01 GMT6

Question about 77 steering rebuild18 Apr 2008 21:26 GMT5
What is the recommended way to rebuild a front end?  Is the complete
tie rod replacement easier than just doing ball joints?  I assume that
an alignment would be needed either way.  A local shop quoted $1000.00
for rebuilding tie rod ends and bushing and replacing the steering
