Hi there, I have been offered a running 1300 twin port engine for about £30 with merged headers. I want to learn more about an engine before I buy a pre 67 beetle next year so I thought this would be good to play with.

Last sunday i had the idea to take the '59 for a trip. I't started very hard and even had to push start it... Anyway, finally it started, did drive for about 30 min.when suddenly it died. (For a full terras, no fun!)

On my 6V '65, when I press in the clutch (via the pedal) with the engine OFF, it works fine... no weirdness or anything. Start the motor and as I depress the clutch it starts to whirr - then there is a "clunk" followed by normal clutch action. Sometimes it was FAR TIGHTER

One day my stock FI Bug runs great, no problems. Next day, starts off OK after a while it'll backfire and eventually stall. Start it goes for a bit backfires and stalls. If I park it and let sit for about a half hour, it'll start up and drive with no problems.
