tie-rod end (and SF mechanic suggestion?)29 Sep 2008 22:54 GMT9
I have 2 dilemmas (a quartlemma?). 1) I don't know if I should have a
lot of the front-end work (i.e. tie-rod end and king pin replaced)
done simultaneously, or just the essential. 2) I don't know who to
bring the car to.

this one's probably basic...got a 67 bug that won't start, doesn't try
turning over at all. battery is showing 13.4 volts, lights go on, but no
cranking at all. red light is on, but not the green/yellow one. i have a

How much is this car worth?  How much would a buyer pay on average27 Sep 2008 21:07 GMT5
In a nutshell.  As much as you can get someone to pay for it.  BUT.
How much is a 1967 Beetle worth.  Most of everything is original.  But
the bumpers have been replaced.  Light surface rust.  No body damage.
No radio.  Original interior.  2nd coat of paint done not exceptional
new battery26 Sep 2008 20:51 GMT7
I've ordered a new 6V battery.
140 Ah instead of the usual 66Ah.
AFAIK this is possible/able to fit were the normal battery should fit.
Width is most important, lenght and hight are somewhat variable...
4 lugged rear drum on a 66 Beetle25 Sep 2008 22:02 GMT7
I converted my 66 Beetle's front brakes to discs with the 4 bolt pattern
wheels.  I'm not crazy about the 4 to 5 bolt adaptors so I want to buy new
wheels, all with the 4 bolt pattern.  The question is, can I put a 68 4 bolt
pattern drum on my rear spindles without any problems ...

Which Weight Oil To Use In My Beelte?25 Sep 2008 16:31 GMT4
Which weight oil to use in my '73 Beetle?
I have been using Castrol 40HD in hot weather, 30HD in mild weather,
and 10 W30 in cold weather.
Most seem to like 20 W50, but after reading Ed Hackett's article on
What happened to the Beetle's heater25 Sep 2008 03:25 GMT4
On a late model Beetle last night I was driving down the freeway and
it was cold outside.  For a good half hour the heater stopped
working.  No air would pass through the vents at all no mater how many
times I moved the heater control knob up and down.  The hot air would

How do you change this Oil seal on the harmonic balancer of a 1600cc
engine?  What is involved and what tools are needed?
Conversion from generator to alternator - who makes a good kit?23 Sep 2008 19:11 GMT5
My 72 SB has a junk generator, so we made the decision to swap to an
alternator...I've been looking at different kits from SoCal and Mid-
America. I wasn't real impressed with the Mid-America kit as the
instructions for it were reprinted 74-75 alternator install instructions.
Rear tail light swap on late model Beetle23 Sep 2008 17:06 GMT4
I have a late model VW Beetle with the elephant style tail lamps.  Is
it possible to swap these lamps for the 1971 style lamps?  Do I have
to change the rear wheel wells which I don't mind doing?  How involved
is the process and is it doable without help?

Just one of those weeks22 Sep 2008 13:41 GMT13
Last week I thought I would have time this week to do some work on the

morning.
So once again the garage & shop get put on the back burner.
